The Visual Art Teacher (Grades 4-8) teaches visual arts in a dynamic and challenging program that is richly innovative. The person in this position teaches in person on campus and coordinates other schoolwide visual arts programs, such as the Festival of the Arts and Yearbook. This position includes middle school advisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teaching Responsibilities:
Develop and implement long and short-range plans for differentiated art technique, theory, and exploration in the following courses: Grade 4 Visual Art; Grade 5 Visual Art; Middle School Art Electives; Yearbook Elective
Use varied and appropriate instructional practices, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the Turning Point philosophy and the needs of students.
Create an environment conducive to learning that facilitates the physical, social, emotional, and academic development of students.
Collaborate with Middle School faculty on integration opportunities, such as core curriculum and other school initiatives.
Provide clear performance objectives for student, parent, and administrative reference.
Utilize the school’s anti-racist framework and DEIJ scope and sequence in designing curricula.
Provide differentiated, varied classroom instruction using a multi-modal approach.
Integrate instruction with other subject area curriculum, as appropriate.
Develop and implement student assessment methods that will consistently and continuously provide a basis for evaluating and reporting student progress.
Document and communicate student progress with advisors, deans, administrators, and parents.
Communicate professionally and effectively with all constituents: students, parents, colleagues, and administrators in a timely manner.
Contribute to the school community beyond the classroom.
Advisory Duties:
Serve as a middle school advisor in the school's signature advisory program.
Teach essential topics such as organization, conflict resolution, stress, sleep, nutrition, human development, etc.
Coordinate with Advisors and Deans to deliver academic and social emotional support for students.
Address student decision-making and behavior in a manner that reflects the school’s commitment to positive psychology, such as implementing Restorative Practices.
Document and communicate advisee progress with Deans, administrators, and parents.
Other Visual Arts Related Duties:
Collaborate with lower school art instructional team and the Director of Teaching and Learning to ensure a developmental arc of art curriculum across grade levels.
Assist with maintenance of spaces on campus that support Visual Art programming, such as the MakerLab and Galleries.
Collaborate with the Development Office to plan and host an alumni art exhibit.
Produce the Festival of the Arts and Community Art/Artist in Residence project including curriculum, budget, scheduling, and communication.
Lead student Yearbook staff in generating the school’s annual publication.

Regular hours for the position are Monday through Friday, 7:45 am to 3:45 pm. An attractive, comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, FSA, and retirement plan. Competitive salary based on experience.
Compensation & Benefits:
Base Salary: $68,000 - $75,000 (depending upon experience)
Eligible for medical, dental, vision, chiropractic, LTD, EAP, and retirement benefits the first of the month following date of hire

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is preferred
3-5 years of teaching experience required
Technical visual arts and/or design background preferred
Exemplary teaching skills
Expert class management techniques
