The Cambridge School of Weston seeks an academic support teacher in our Evening Support Program (ESP). We are looking for a qualified, experienced educator who is well-versed in academic support practices, culturally responsive teaching, and equity literacy skills. is opportunity is open to current employees of the school as well as external candidates.
A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills; will value progressive, student-centered education; will demonstrate an ability to make strong connections with students; will be passionate about teaching creative students in a boarding and day school environment; and will have experience in differentiating and working in multiple modalities with all learners. Essential Functions of this Position Include:
Participate in an August training with the Director of the Skills Center and Assistant Head of School for Academics
Provide support to students from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday evenings (while school is in session) that focuses on the following executive function and academic skills:
meta-cognition (evaluating one’s own learning process)
active reading (highlighting, annotating, audio commenting, etc.)
Maintain ongoing communication with the Skills Center Director, teachers, advisors, dorm parents, and families regarding the progress of enrolled students
Participate in academic interventions as needed
Read Learning Plans and implement specific items/accommodations as needed
Evaluate each student’s ability to meet basic standards in their content courses
Document and communicate progress to students, advisors, and dorm parents regarding students’ progress
Participate in modly departmental meetings prepared to discuss student concerns, teaching pedagogy, and curriculum developments.
Assist with departmental representation at school outreach events
Write end-of-mod comments and communicate proactively concerning lack of progress (as needed)
Demonstrate a willingness to learn and share new pedagogical techniques and develop specific curricular expertise
Read and stay abreast of current topics in neurodiversity and cultural competency
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts or equivalent required
Relevant professional experience working one-on-one with students
Relevant professional experience helping students to develop and apply essential time and task management skills using a strengths-based model
Relevant professional experience providing content-specific academic support
Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to strong collaboration across and within departments
Interest and ability in meeting individual students’ learning needs using a relational approach
Commitment to the values of progressive, student-centered education
Passion for teaching creative students with a variety of learning methods, preferences, and talents
