Position Summary and Overview

The Churchill School & Center, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking an Upper School (Grades 7-12) leave replacement English Teacher for hire from August 2025 - November 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
• Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Work collaboratively with cooperating team members, including but not limited to: co-head teacher, related service providers and specialists to plan and implement units of study, lessons, assignments, and projects & activities that reflect a diversity of voices and points of view
• Develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and tools for students to become independent, college-bound learners
• Break down/scaffold of in-class assignments and projects
• Grade student work and participation
• Track students’ work and progress
• Serve as an advisor to a small group of students
• Communicate with Student families as needed
• Attend relevant staff meetings as required
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have...

• BA or BS Degree in English, English Education, Special Education or related field
• MA or MS Degree  in English Education, Literacy/Reading , Special Education or related field
• NYS Teacher Certification 
• Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective service strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
• Classroom or small group instruction experience building positive and appropriate relationships with students
• Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology
• Interest in professional career development in the field of special education and literacy instruction
• Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor

Compensation 

• $63K-$85K annual salary commensurate with experience
