A St. Peter’s School Prekindergarten teacher is a dynamic full-time teacher who has experience planning an integrated curriculum, is committed to academic excellence, awareness of DEIJB, and engaging learners to be committed citizens of their communities. They understand the social and emotional growth and development of young children and have a student-centered approach to learning. They will have excellent communication and organizational skills, and the motivation to work collaboratively as a team with other teachers to build a sense of community in and outside of the classroom.
Additionally, the teacher should be knowledgeable of current instructional practices, pedagogy and curriculum standards, and innovative approaches to instruction. They should be a team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work with all adults and children of different ages respectfully and consistently is important.
Duties and responsibilities included but not limited to:
Demonstrates strong classroom management skills
Ensures that multicultural themes and diverse perspectives are incorporated throughout the curriculum
Partners with families to nurture the child’s social and emotional growth
Is responsible for ongoing assessment and communication with families and the Director of Early Childhood.
Works collaboratively and with mutual respect with all members of the faculty
Establishes positive relationships with students based on mutual respect and good will
Uses a variety of teaching techniques suitable to the developmental age and needs of the students and subject matter being taught
Provides differentiated instruction when appropriate
Engages in project based learning approaches to integrate curriculum units
Uses a variety of technology formats to collaborate, publish, and engage with peers, families, and colleagues
Supervises the students during extended day “Lunch Bunch” program
Attends faculty meetings, school events, pursues professional development opportunities, and contributes to committees on campus
Assists with additional duties as needed or assigned
Meets all expectations regarding job responsibilities in a professional and timely manner
Models ethical and professional behavior
Ongoing communication including but not limited to weekly newsletters, trimester progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences
Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Demonstrates a commitment to and actively supports the School and its Mission
Qualifications and Requirements:
A minimum of three years of experience teaching in an Early Childhood setting
A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education is required. While a Master’s degree is not required, advanced coursework or training is preferred
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to build trusting relationships with children, parents, and colleagues
Strong communication and classroom management skills, and an ability to work cooperatively with others on curriculum development
