Connelly School of the Holy Child is seeking a dedicated and flexible Long Term Substitute Teacher to join our esteemed faculty for the upcoming term. This role is essential to providing continuity in our students' education and maintaining the high standards of our school community. The ideal candidate will be committed to academic excellence and fostering a growth-oriented learning environment. 

Holy Child is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for a year long appointment covering faculty long-term leave in MS. This candidate will have experience in developing lesson plans, grading, and parent communications.  The position reports to the Head of Middle School. Although this is a yearlong appointment, the position provides an opportunity for a candidate to demonstrate their skills and be considered for any openings for the upcoming year.  

Start date: August 12, 2025 

End Date: June 11, 2026 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Implement and adapt lesson plans as provided by the regular teacher, ensuring the curriculum requirements are met. 

• Engage students in learning activities to promote their intellectual, social, and emotional growth. 

• Maintain a structured classroom environment that encourages respect and passion for learning. 

• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty regarding student progress and classroom events. 

• Assist with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as breaks and lunch. 

• Provide feedback and insights to the regular teacher regarding student performance and classroom dynamics. 

• Attend events specific to Middle School. 

• Perform teacher duties as assigned such as lunch coverage, study hall and advisory.

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred. 

• Prior to teaching experience in a school setting. 

• Teaching in intermediate grades or middle school.  

• Strong classroom management abilities and the capacity to adapt to varying situations. 

• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit. 

• Passion for teaching and a commitment to the mission and values of the school. 

• Ability to build meaningful relationships with students and staff alike.

Connelly School of the Holy Child Founded in 1961 by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus as a college preparatory school for girls grade 6-12. The school is part of a network of 33 Holy Child schools in the United States, Europe and Africa, which is guided by the educational philosophy of Cornelia Connelly. Holy Child enrolls approximately 300 students every year from the Washington, DC metropolitan area as well as across the globe.
