Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School & Center, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking an Assistant Science Teacher in the Upper School division (Grade 8) beginning mid-August 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
- Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Work collaboratively with cooperating Head Teacher and other related service providers and specialists in science classes and potentially one math class
- Support Head Teacher by
- planning curriculum, lessons, and assignments
- grading student work and participation
- taking attendance each period
- maintaining website with course documents and assignments
- tracking students' work and progress
- Support Students by:
- developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and tools to become independent, college-bound learners
- providing extra-help
- maintaining records
- breaking-down / scaffolding assignment
- Serving as an advisor to students
- Seek improved methods of teaching through professional development opportunities
- Assist in developing and supporting behavior management plans as necessary
- Other duties as assigned (lunch, hallway, accompany students to specialist classes, etc.)
- Attend relevant staff meetings
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have...
- BA or BS Degree (Degree in Science or Science related fields, Education, or Special Education preferred)
- Knowledge of and comfort with general science and basic physics concepts
- Experience working with, mentoring, supervising and/or building positive relationships with middle school aged children
- Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
- Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology in the classroom
- Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
- Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
Compensation
- $46,000-$58,000 commensurate with experience
