At Landmark Elementary-Middle School, the Dean of Faculty will play a central role in supporting, evaluating, and developing the teaching staff. This position focuses on ensuring high-quality, research-informed instruction by conducting regular classroom observations, offering constructive feedback, and guiding teachers toward continuous growth. The Dean of Faculty also leads professional development initiatives and collaborates closely with Department Heads and the Head of Campus to foster a reflective and collegial teaching culture.
This role is critical in advancing instructional excellence and maintaining alignment with Landmark’s Portrait of an Educator, values, and mission to serve students with language-based learning differences. This is a full-time 12-month position and will begin on July 1, 2025 reporting directly to the Head of Campus.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Instructional Leadership & Faculty Development
Lead and manage a comprehensive faculty evaluation system, based on our Portrait of an Educator and in collaboration with Landmark’s High School Academic Leadership, including frequent classroom observations, goal-setting, and delivering timely, constructive, and actionable feedback
Mentor faculty in best instructional practices for students with language-based learning differences.
Support cross-curricular initiatives and promote the integration of literacy and skill development across subject areas.
Collaborate with the Head of Campus and high school counterparts to plan and implement high-impact professional development, inservice days, and ongoing training that aligns with DESE standards and Landmark’s academic priorities.
Support the onboarding of new faculty and serve as a key liaison for instructional coaches providing support throughout the year.
Monitor faculty professional development plans, signs off on plans every other year, and assists faculty when audited by DESE.
Schedule and coordinate classroom observations for internal and external visitors, including prospective faculty and accreditation teams.
Oversee coverage planning for faculty attending professional development, training sessions, floater coverage, or other scheduled responsibilities outside the classroom.
Academic Oversight & Scheduling
Oversee the creation and execution of academic scheduling, ensuring balance and alignment with departmental needs and staffing resources while working with the Department of Student Progress and Performance.
Support academic departments, including Department Heads and Beacons, through regular check-ins, participation in team meetings, and leadership development in coaching and curriculum design.
Collaboration & Communication
Participate in faculty supervision meetings and hiring processes, including interviewing and evaluating teaching candidates.
Collaborate with other EMS Administrators as a part of the EMS Administrative Team.
Support NEASC and DESE accreditation processes as needed, including gathering evidence and preparing documentation.
Participate in the planning and execution of key campus events that highlight academic programming and foster community involvement, including but not limited to Conference Days and awards ceremonies.
Collaborate with members of the Leadership Team (i.e., Marketing, Department of Student Progress and Performance, Outreach, Admissions, and Advancement) on matters related to academic operations, faculty, and program alignment.
Take on other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Campus to support academic operations and faculty development.
Candidates should have:
A Master’s degree (required); a Master’s in Special Education and Certification in Moderate Special Needs are preferred.
Several years of classroom teaching experience, preferably with students who have language-based learning disabilities.
Strong understanding of academic programming and core classroom curricula tailored for students with language-based learning differences
Several years of management and supervisory experience in an academic setting similar to Landmark.
Demonstrated understanding of principles and practices of structured literacy.
Demonstrated ability to observe instruction and provide clear, constructive, and actionable feedback.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain professional rapport with colleagues while providing clear and productive feedback.
An approachable, flexible, and collaborative demeanor while managing a wide range of responsibilities.
Highly organized, with the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and maintain accurate documentation.
Knowledge of DESE standards and familiarity with NEASC accreditation processes (preferred).

Landmark is a coeducational, private, residential high school for students with language based learning disabilities. We also have an Elementary/Middle School program which is a day program. We are situated twenty miles north of Boston on Massachusetts’ historic North Shore. There are currently 310 students attending the high school campus and 145 students attending the elementary middle school campus at Landmark, which makes us one of the largest and most highly respected schools for students with learning disabilities in the nation. Students at the school come from a variety of national, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. Each student has average to above average intelligence, but also has a language based learning disability that has made education a very difficult process. Landmark takes pride in remediating (teaching) the basic skills while still immersing the student in a challenging curriculum.
