Roland Park Country School is seeking a full-time Lower School Homeroom teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The Lower School Homeroom Teacher reports to the Head of Lower School and is responsible for planning and implementing the core subjects: Math, English Language Arts (Writing and Reading), and Social Studies. Our practices at RPCS include the Responsive Classroom approach and the Math in Focus math program, and experience with either is desirable. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team member, possess strong written and oral communication skills, and demonstrate flexibility and creativity. In addition, this candidate must possess the ability to foster an engaging learning environment that is accessible to a broad range of learners. RPCS teachers engage students in learning through a variety of teaching methodologies and innovative, relevant classroom experiences. RPCS has a strong commitment to culturally responsive teaching and to understanding and supporting diverse attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build a strong classroom community with positive communication skills.
Build an open and trusting relationship with staff, children, and families.
Create an engaging, student-centered environment with provision for individual, small, and large group work.
Communicate effectively and regularly with parents about academic content, individual student progress, and Well-Being.
Increase cultural competence to work effectively with families of all backgrounds.
Plan,develop,and implement an engaging curriculum based on grade-level standards and benchmarks.
Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
Design learning targets, scope and sequence, and pacing guides as part of the All-School curriculum mapping process.
Plan daily developmentally appropriate work for students using various materials.
Maintain regular communication with grade level team and resource teachers.
Provide a culturally relevant, literacy-rich learning environment with various print materials appealing to diverse levels, learning styles, and interests.
Stay abreast of current research based on best practices.
Track student progress in subjects taught and communicate progress through the four report card periods.
Participate in regular evaluation process, observations, feedback conferences, self-evaluation, and goal setting to refine practice.
Attends meetings, including but not limited to team, department, and divisional, Lower School morning meetings, all-employee meetings, and all-school functions.
Participate in professional development, including in-service training to enhance knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy.
Other reasonable, periodic duties, as assigned, by the Lower School Head or Head of School.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or related field. Graduate degree preferred.
Minimum of three years of demonstrated excellence in teaching at the elementary level. Experience with Responsive Classroom is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to ascend/descend stairs in a school building.
Must be able to assume postures at low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.
Requires the ability to turn, sit, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crawl, stoop, push, pull, walk around campus, and stand for prolonged periods.
Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and regularly work indoors or outdoors.
WORK CONDITIONS:
The Lower School Homeroom Teacher is a full-time, 10 month exempt position.
The individual in this position is expected to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School and during other hours for events and activities.
The Lower School Homeroom Teacher is expected to perform their job duties on campus unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School.
COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE: In accordance with Maryland's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, we are committed to providing transparent wage information for all posted job opportunities. The salary range for this position is $54,000-$107,500 annually. Compensation is determined based on factors such as Experience, Qualifications, and Internal equity.
