Reports To: Upper School Director Position Type: Full-Time, Faculty, Exempt
Established in 1920, Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. Bentley School celebrates the cultural and ethnic diversity of its community as a key strength of its program and desires faculty members who will help cultivate these shared values. Bentley School is an inclusive community that shares a vision of academic achievement, balance, and the cultivation of character. Bentley seeks an Instrumental Music Teacher for the middle and high school programs, primarily located on our 9-12 Lafayette Campus, but will need to be able to travel to our K-8 Oakland Campus.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Planning and teaching instrumental music classes, with a goal of developing skills, active interest in music performance, content knowledge and skill development.
Potential courses include: Jazz, Introduction to Music, Digital Music and Chamber Ensemble
Develops and administers music education curriculum for grades six through twelve
Assisting annually with the Upper School or Dual Campus Musical
Working collaboratively with administration and Upper and Middle School Music faculty
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, students, and families
Communicating effectively with parents in formal and informal conferences, written reports, newsletters, and other school-approved channels
Supporting and following school policies and procedures
Being a positive and contributing member of the Bentley community
Creating a positive learning environment both remotely and on campus where students thrive academically
Designing innovative curricula in which both academic and social-emotional growth are considered
Attending regular faculty and grade-level meetings
Attending evening and weekend special events
Serving as an Advisor
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Music with a Master’s preferred
Demonstrated successful instrumental music teaching experience
Experience in an interdisciplinary environment with an emphasis on group collaboration
The desire to continually examine one’s practice with the goal of improving students’ learning
Professional string, woodwind or brass performer, preferred
Ability to teach and play several instruments
Use of technology in delivering content
A passion for working with young people
A desire to collaborate in and contribute to a dynamic community of teachers
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability and willingness to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students
Experience in innovative course design, planning, implementation, and assessment
Pay Range:
Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The salary scale for this position ranges from $71,611 for teachers with no prior teaching experience to $140,000 for teachers with over 40 years of prior experience.
