Georgetown Visitation, founded in 1799, is an all-girls high school rooted in the Roman Catholic faith and Salesian tradition, committed to educating young women from diverse backgrounds. We are a faith-centered community dedicated to educational excellence, enriched by co-curricular and service programs. We guide our students as they integrate the search for truth with the pursuit of knowledge and dedicate their God-given gifts to making the world a better place.
Visitation is currently inviting applications for a full-time, 11-month College Counselor and Program Coordinator. This role reports to the Director of College Counseling and is an integral part of a four-person team which offers a comprehensive program that includes group events, the junior year college counseling class, and a series of one-on-one conferences.
This is an integral and evolving position in an office that works closely with students, parents, college representatives, and faculty. The ideal candidate will possess a keen interest in learning more about current trends and issues in college admissions and a desire to work with a range of talented students as well as parents, faculty, and college admissions officers. Strong candidates will exhibit attention to detail, the ability to take initiative and follow through on tasks, a sense of humor, and an understanding of standardized testing and secondary school curricula. Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Responsibilities:
Teach at least one section of the junior-year college counseling class (approximately 10 students) and serve as the designated college counselor for all students in that class, including hosting individual conferences, writing letters of recommendation, and guiding students in that section on every aspect of their college search and application process
Manage the office, including keeping the calendar, organizing digital files, streamlining and codifying existing policies, handling communication (profile, weekly newsletters), and greeting and directing visitors
Coordinate the programmatic and logistical aspects of the College Counseling Office events, including, but not limited to, mock application case studies, visits from college representatives, and the mock interviewing program with Visi alumnae
Serve as the primary editor and coordinator for the web-based application software program Scoir, including data entry of sensitive information, digital distribution of school documents in support of students’ college applications, and the dissemination of other information to assist with the college search and application process
Serve as the testing coordinator, including overseeing the fall PSAT, a mock ACT, an on-campus test preparation course, and the May AP exams
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
General secretarial and office management skills, including proofreading, writing, and computer proficiency
Relevant background and experience in a school setting (preferred)
During the academic year (August 15 - June 15), the position requires in-person, full-time work from 7:30am – 3:30pm Monday – Friday. Candidates must also be willing to work evenings and weekends for special programming.
Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants without regard to their age, color, disability status, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sex, veteran status, or any other class protected by state or federal law. As a Catholic school, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School reserves the right to use religion as a hiring criterion for selected positions, as permitted by law.
