POSITION SUMMARY
The Hewitt School is seeking a middle and upper school strings teacher and conductor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach beginner 5th grade strings class
Teach and conduct intermediate 6th, 7th and 8th grade string ensembles
Teach small group lessons to middle school students focusing on instrumental technique
Teach and conduct upper school chamber orchestra
Prepare ensembles for winter and spring concerts, assemblies, and special events
Collaborate with music faculty to support the overall K-12 music program
Act as an advisor
Design and deliver engaging lessons that challenge and inspire students of all levels
Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment while maintaining a high standard of excellence
Oversee instrument rental program and repairs
Write student reports and stay in regular communication with parents
Exhibit professionalism, excellent organizational skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills
Participate in admissions and parent education events
Engage fully in Hewitt’s commitment to implementing current research on girls in the classroom and beyond
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
Bachelor’s degree in music performance (string instrument) or music education
Minimum of three to five years of teaching experience in a classroom setting
Experience in ensemble conducting
Proficiency on all string instruments
Ability to arrange music based on the instrumentation of the ensemble and experience level of the musicians using music notation software such as Sibelius and Dorico.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Inquiry-based pedagogy
Master’s degree in music performance (string instrument) or music education
Professional musician experience
Extensive knowledge of string and orchestra repertoire
Piano proficiency
Culturally responsive approach to teaching
Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quickly
Commitment to student life
Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice
Professional practice and ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual exploration
SALARY RANGE
Starting Salary Range: $65,000 to $95,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
