Christchurch School is a co-ed Episcopal boarding and day school serving grades 9—12. Founded in 1921, Christchurch is located on a 125-acre waterfront campus on the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia’s tidewater region. The school’s Mission is to inspire and guide each student's pursuit of personal excellence in academics and character so they are prepared for meaningful lives as engaged citizens and community leaders.
Position Overview. Christchurch seeks a teacher to join the science (and potentially math) department. Even though we would expect a candidate to have a particular field of study, a wide range of scientific experience and interest is appealing as we teach science with an integrated approach combining biology, chemistry, and physics in combined units. If there were to be a specific field of interest, someone who has experience or is able to teach physics would be desirable. Additionally, the ideal candidate would be interested in teaching some sections in our math department. Our campus sits on a major river of the Chesapeake Bay providing an unparalleled laboratory for teaching all types of science and scientific inquiry.
Christchurch School fosters a student-centered approach to pedagogical practices, valuing the craft of teaching and embracing the boarding school model for meaningful education of the whole child. Equally, employees at CCS are expected to foster an inclusive workplace and contribute to a community built on equitable policies and procedures. Teachers at CCS also contribute to the school by leading an advisory of 7-10 students, being a part of a duty team one evening per week and 5-6 weekends per year, and participating in two seasons of co-curriculars (particular areas of need are men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, sailing, and football).

Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor of Science degree
- Passionate about education as a profession and excited to learn or hone the craft of teaching
- Candidates should be realistic and excited about teaching in a boarding school
Preferred
- An advanced degree in science, particularly physics or math related
- 2-4 years teaching experience, preferably in a boarding or independent school
- Desire and experience teaching in math and science
- This position is also expected to participate in the school’s co-curricular program. Women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, and softball are specific areas of possibility but not required.
Work environment and physical demands:
- Ability to be mobile around campus and buildings
- Ability to work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods
- Some travel required (mainly for athletic competitions)
