The primary responsibility of the person holding this position is to be a resource for students' social, emotional, and psychological well-being in grades 6-12. The Part-Time Middle and Upper School counselor will meet with students to provide preventive services, attend to urgent and ongoing student well-being matters, support faculty and staff regarding such issues, or refer students for outside support. The counselor responds to short-term and medium-term student needs that impact their learning, their well-being at school, and their school social environment, and works with faculty and staff to implement proactive solutions based on collaborative frameworks.
Direct Student Support
Meet with students and parents when counseling support is indicated.
Meet with groups of students during lunch time as a proactive measure in helping students deal with social and/or emotional issues.
Resource, Information and Communication
Serve as a resource to teachers, school leaders, curriculum coordinators, support teams, and parents on student developmental, socio-emotional, and psychological issues.
Lead and participate in the Wellbeing Team meeting that focuses on Student Support.
Keep teachers informed of student issues as necessary within the limits of confidentiality.
Provide guidance and recommendations to teachers regarding student needs pertaining to their well-being.
Coordinate with the MS Advisory program which develops and implements SEL advisory curriculum.
Serve as a resource to families when well-being concerns arise.
Assist in providing referrals for out-of-school health resources.
Serve as a liaison with community professionals serving our students.
Work with the Division Director to facilitate communication with parents about student behavioral and/or socio-emotional issues.
Administration
Keep documentation and records regarding all students who receive support. Maintain information with safeguards to protect its privacy by professional licensure requirements.
Keep the school leadership informed of legal obligations related to safety issues.
Participate in regular Counseling and Health & Wellness Department meetings and strive to maintain a school-wide student support team approach.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
Demonstrated ability and skills to meet the Core Competencies established by ISB as outlined above
Demonstrated knowledge of the subject area(s) being taught
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to engage in conversational English at the B1 level
Background check cleared
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- PREFERRED (not required, but beneficial):
Counseling license (LMHC, LCSW, LICSW)
