Reports To: Director of Institutional Communications
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Communications is a key member of the Communications team at our Pre-K–12 Quaker school, serving as the school’s lead writer and a creative voice in storytelling and community engagement. This role is responsible for producing high-quality written content that supports the school’s mission, elevates its public presence, and connects with a wide range of audiences, including current families, prospective families, alumni, and the broader community.
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Communications, the Assistant Director of Communications will provide support and oversight in cross-functional collaborations across departments to create engaging content for print, web, and digital platforms. Additionally, the Assistant Director will support the Director in implementing school-wide communications strategies that align with the school’s Quaker values.

Writing & Editorial: Write and edit a wide range of content, to include:
Magazine articles, alumni profiles, and feature articles
Press releases highlighting school events and achievements
Print/digital school publications and materials for recruitment and retention
News stories and blog posts for the school website
Marketing & Digital Content
Create content for digital marketing email campaigns and digital/print advertising
Generate and analyze weekly digital marketing and website performance reports
Support content creation strategies to promote the school’s programs, values, and community impact
Contribute written content for the school’s social media channels
School Communications Support
Support the Director with strategic oversight and coordination in cross-functional collaborations across departments
Ensure consistency in messaging, tone, and brand voice across all platforms
Collaborate with colleagues to maintain alignment with institutional priorities
Supervision:This job has no supervisory responsibilities
Professional Attributes & Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or related field
Demonstrated expansive and published experience in communications, content development, and writing communications across a variety of platforms and media, preferably for an educational or mission-driven environment
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across formats and platforms
Strong organizational and project management abilities; able to work independently and the ability to manage multiple priorities
Demonstrates sound judgment, discretion, and a high level of integrity and professionalism in working with diverse audiences, representing the school’s values
Proficiency with web content management systems and marketing tools
Continuous learner; exhibits a proactive and respectful approach to feedback; seeks out professional development opportunities
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed

Salary: The expected salary range is $78,000 to $85,000. The actual compensation will be based on the candidate's relevant and transferable years of service, as well as other factors, including internal peer equity, level of expertise, market considerations, and organizational factors. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Work Environment:While performing the duties of this Job, the employee can be exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is not frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
