Xavier High School seeks a part-time college counselor for the 2025-2026 school year.
Founded in 1847, Xavier High School is an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school in New York City that educates intelligent, motivated young men of diverse backgrounds and means. Xavier teaches students to take responsibility for their lives, to lead with integrity, to act justly in service of others, to pursue excellence in every endeavor and to deepen their relationship with God. Ultimately, Xavier forms young men who will go forth to transform the world for God’s greater glory.
The college counselor at Xavier is responsible for guiding students through the college process to help find their best-fit college (socio-emotional, academic, and financial). Supporting a caseload of approximately 40 students in grade 12, the college counselor will join a dynamic and experienced team of three full-time college counselors. The part-time college counselor (two days weekly, plus four hours remotely) will provide individual and small-group college counseling support to seniors throughout their college process. This part-time offer may extend through the school year.
Xavier college counselors interface regularly with not just students, but also families and college admissions professionals. We are constantly seeking opportunities for our diverse array of students, and spend time relationship-building across the spectrum of key stakeholders in the college process (seniors, families, and college admissions professionals).
The ideal candidate will
- have experience as a college counselor
- have knowledge of the ever-changing landscape of college admissions
- enjoy working with adolescents
- have outstanding interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills
- be available to begin by August 26, 2025
A masters in school counseling is preferred but not required. More important are the qualities listed above, as well as a willingness to work as a team and a sense of humor. Salary will begin at 35,000.
