Boston University Academy is seeking a full-time math teacher for a four-month leave replacement position for spring 2026 (mid-February to mid-June). Primary responsibilities include teaching three sections of math: two Precalculus sections and one section of Algebraic Thinking & Coordinate Geometry: Integrated Math 1. Both courses utilize a problem-based, integrated approach where students work through problem sets of interleaved topics, rather than a traditional textbook. BUA faculty are also involved outside the classroom in a variety of ways, including advising, chaperoning trips and events, and leading extracurricular activities.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in math, math education, or a related field; Master’s Degree or higher preferred
3+ years of experience teaching math, preferably at a high school level; college teaching experience will also be considered
Experience working with high-school students and a passion for supporting students at this level
A student-centered orientation
Deep content knowledge and a passion for the material
Experience in a problem-based approach to math education
The teacher will join a five-person department committed to inquiry-based approaches and student-centered teaching and learning math.
Experience in or knowledge of independent schools is a plus. For all positions, we look for candidates who enjoy working with colleagues in a collaborative environment, who are flexible and creative, who will fully engage in the life of the school, and who are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable community.
