Lead Teacher Position Summary: PS1 is a K-6 elementary school located in Santa Monica. We are a collaborative community where pairs of teachers work to teach, advise, supervise, and care for the whole child in project-based multi-age classrooms. Teachers work in partnership with parents, work collegially with administrators and fellow faculty, and grow professionally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to, the following): • Support the mission of PS1 to create joyful learning experiences that support the well-being and identity of each individual while building a shared community of belonging • Advocate for and promote the School within the school and broader Los Angeles community • Develop, plan for, and teach interdisciplinary and differentiated curriculum in mathematics, language arts, literature, socialnstudies, science, and social emotional learning • Collaborate with a classroom co-lead teacher, grade level cluster teachers, and the LEARN team • Communicate with parents in a culturally competent, empathetic, informative, timely, and professional manner; write and deliver authentic narrative assessments and feedback for children • Participate in school events, including but not limited to Curriculum Night and Parent Conferences, Admissions Events, All-School camping trip, Advancement events, and field trips • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, professional days, orientation week, and end of the year professional development week, along with individual professional development opportunities • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree (required) • Master’s degree in a related area • Significant teaching experience, ideally at the elementary school level • Demonstrated ability to help nurture and develop children's individual and healthy identities and capacity to build communities of belonging • Experience with Teachers College Reading and Writing Program, Cognitive Guided Instruction Mathematics, Imaginative Inquiry, Learning for Justice • Deep understanding of and demonstrated commitment to Progressive education, pedagogy, and values, as well as a passion for life-long learning • Experience with and interest in project-based classroom experiences for students • Demonstrated ability to use formative and summative assessment, grade level standards, and developmentally appropriate practices to build learning experiences for children • Exceptional proficiency and comfort with writing and the written word, including the skills to communicate with parents and colleagues, along with the willingness to utilize current technology and a commitment to digital citizenship • High energy, curiosity, resourcefulness, sense of humor, strong work ethic, creativity, and a positive attitude
