Reporting to the Chief of Institutional Advancement, the HR Generalist serves as the primary point of contact for school employees and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and handling of a wide variety of essential HR functions. The HR Generalist will serve as a primary point of contact throughout the employee life cycle, handling employee inquiries, managing recruitment cycles, supporting employee relations, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and laws. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, outstanding written and verbal communication, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while assisting with recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, and record-keeping. The ideal candidate has an initiative-taking mindset, is technologically savvy, and is an independent and highly accessible team member to staff, and faculty, and will work with other school leaders and managers to implement approved processes, policies, strategies, tools, and services that ensure alignment with desired organizational goals and outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment, Onboarding, and Offboarding
Manage end-to-end recruitment process by posting job openings, screening resumes, coordinating committees and interviews, and coordinating communication with candidates and hiring managers for faculty, staff, contract, and seasonal positions.
Develop and implement new and existing recruitment strategies and resources to attract qualified candidates. Evaluate the effectiveness of current and ongoing recruitment efforts and channels. ? Create, revise, and maintain job descriptions. Research, analyze, and make recommendations for new and updated position descriptions, starting salaries, appropriate classifications, and pay bands, as needed.
Complete job postings, screening applications, organizing applicant data, reporting, and performing related background checks.
Research, collect, and analyze data related to hiring, retention, staffing, and compensation. May complete related surveys and assist in the compensation analysis and recommendation process. ? Draft offer letters and other employment documents for approval for new hires.
Prepare employment contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and other employment documentation.
Manage the onboarding process, communicating with new hires and hiring managers to ensure a smooth onboarding process, including facilitating thorough new employee onboarding schedules, content, and/or HR orientations, and ensuring all required documentation is completed.
Orient new hires to the ESS modules of the School’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS). ? Manage the offboarding process, including following up with employees and their supervisors when they provide formal notice, facilitate Exit Interviews and offboarding checklists, and proactively reach out to the manager to discuss coverages, backfills, and new postings around vacant positions.
Serve as a/the primary administrator of the HRIS system and ensure its ongoing data integrity and updates related to all employee data in real time.
Facilitate ongoing evaluation and updates to the Employee and Student & Family Handbooks in partnership with leadership team members.
Coordinate and oversee the delivery and completion of asynchronous and, where applicable, on-campus training. Contribute to the effectiveness of onboarding programs.
Employee Relations:
Serve as an accessible point of contact for employees and managers by advising and fielding questions regarding HR policies, benefits, and workplace standards while acting as a neutral party. ? Provide support in resolving employee concerns and assist in fostering a positive work environment and healthy organizational culture.
Serve as the first point of contact with hearing and documenting individual or group employee relations and/or supervisory or peer-related issues, following the appropriate steps and processes for escalating complaints and issues in the workplace.
Consult with supervisors on employee issues and work in collaboration with Schooladministrators to document and facilitate employee disciplinary processes and implementperformance improvement plans when necessary
Assist in the management and documentation of annual performance review processes, withadditional administrative oversight of the staff process.
Work with staff and faculty to identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies. Provide project management for new systems, processes, and/or procedures as they are adopted. ? Assist in coordinating and preparing for employee training and development programs. ? Foster good employee engagement and promote a positive work environment in HR interactions and support.
Collaborate with leadership to foster a value-driven workplace culture that supports retention and productivity.
Handle day-to-day administrative tasks for the HR department, including scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and maintaining related tools and systems.
Implement employee wellness programs and initiatives
Benefits Administration, Compliance, and Reporting:
May assist with or deliver new employee benefits orientations, open enrollment services, and deliver related communications to faculty and staff.
Serve as the first point of contact for staff, faculty members, and administrators regarding benefits inquiries or issues. Escalate high-risk or complex benefits-related inquiries appropriately to the Chief of Institutional Advancement, facilitating and scheduling the related meetings, as needed.
Serve as the liaison and first point of contact for benefits brokers and carriers. Perform annual analysis of ROI and service quality for these vendors and service providers.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and ensure compliance with related law and regulations. Keep employee records in compliance with policies to ensure compliance with labor laws, workplace safety regulations, and other relevant guidelines.
Assist with the preparation and filing of HR/Benefits-related documents, including new hire paperwork and documents required to collaborate with the Business Office to facilitate and approve payroll and leave requests.
Create and prepare employee data and reports related to annual, accreditation, degree, licensure, demographics, and other reporting as requested.
Prepare documents and reports in preparation for compensation and benefits analysis and planning meetings.
Research, analyze, develop, interpret, monitor, and recommend various human resource policies, procedures, programs, practices, services, and materials specifically related to recruitment and hiring, onboarding, compensation, evaluation, and employee file analysis and management.
Research and interpret applicable state and federal policies and regulations. Stay abreast of independent school human resources trends and model practices.
Create/maintain annual compliance calendar(s). Publish resulting data, as required, to agencies, website(s) or other sources, as required or directed.
Collaborate with the Business Office payroll function to ensure that all employee changes havebeen appropriately recorded in payroll software and documented in payroll preparation files? Partner with the appropriate faculty and staff members to develop and maintain meaningful alignment with ongoing ECC principles and practices. May develop and/or support related work, presentations, conferences, hosting, and trainings.
Miscellaneous

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred. ? Minimum of 3 years of HR experience, ideally in an independent school, higher education, or other office environment.
CPM, SHRM, or SPHR certification (or working toward certification) is strongly preferred. ? Demonstrated knowledge of HR policies as well as federal, state, and local laws and regulations. ? Proficiency with HRIS platforms.
Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, decision-making, and critical thinking skills, as well as taking the initiative to propose improvements, alternatives, and solutions. ? Experience and interest in aligning HR data gathering and analysis with People Operations principles and best practices.
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Proven abilities to meet deadlines, make sound judgments, manage confidential and sensitive matters, work effectively with internal and external constituents, and develop collaborative relationships.
