Job Summary:
Greene Street Friends School is looking for qualified candidates to join our After School Program team for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.
The After School Program serves students from Pre-K through 7th grade. We are looking for resourceful, responsible, creative individuals who will bring enthusiasm to creating/implementing engaging programming for our students. After School staff members are responsible for leading activities and games for the students utilizing their own areas of interests and expertise, supporting other staff in their activities, as well as general supervision.
Qualified applicants should be passionate about working with children in a variety of educational and play settings, interested in leading creative projects and games for students, and co-creating a racially just and inclusive learning community. Candidates need to have a history of being reliable, responsible, and flexible.
Position Type/Work Hours: Part-time/ 2:45 to 6:00 pm, as well as some half days and full days throughout the school year.
Reports to: Director of After School Program
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Core Duties/Responsibilities:
Create/Implement age-appropriate activities that are engaging and relevant to the student's interests. Activities can be based on the instructor's background, interests, and expertise including fine arts, performing arts, traditional crafts, or physical fitness.
Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times in various environments - classroom, gymnasium, cafeteria, outdoors, and playground and address matters of safety using proactive, preventative
Support rules of conduct and create a warm and welcoming environment Serve as a model of appropriate behavior to promote positive behaviors. Provide appropriate positive guidance and redirection to children
Track attendance and interaction between programs for students who participate in other afterschool activities while enrolled in this program.
Assist with other classroom tasks, such as: signing children in/out of the program, serving snacks, classroom cleaning and organization, and gathering and preparing materials. Supervise children on trips during our full day care on professional development days
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
Ability to remain professional and courteous while interacting with students, colleagues, & parents
Strong organizational skills and patience
Demonstrable history of being reliable, responsible, and flexible.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Prior experience working with children
A love of working with children
Physical Requirements:
Physical capability to Frequently lift or move weight as in lifting, carrying, or holding children up to 60 lbs. Repetitively bend, stretch, and stoop, work with children on the floor, work outdoors in a variety of weather, fully maintain sight and sound supervision of children
