Position Summary:

Lancaster Country Day School seeks a MS general music teacher and 4th - 8th grade band director. 

The ideal candidate will enjoy working with Middle School students and will possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as a desire to contribute in meaningful and positive ways to the life of the School. In addition, the successful candidate will value autonomy in the classroom, will be a cooperative and reliable colleague, and will strive to cultivate strong student and family relationships.

Responsibilities:

• Teaches MS General Music courses to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students
• Leads MS Band rehearsals and teaches MS Band sectionals
• Leads LS Band rehearsals and teaches 4th-5th grade Band lessons
• Serves as an academic advisor to 7th grade students
• Establishes a classroom culture of academic risk-taking and high expectations for all students
• Differentiates instruction to allow students with diverse learning needs to fully access the curriculum
• Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
• Collaborates closely with other faculty members (departmental, grade-level, and school-wide) to assure consistency between and among teachers of the same subject matter, to align curriculum across content areas, to improve one’s own and others’ instructional practices
• Assesses students regularly, using assessment data to drive instruction
• Provides students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; find ways to involve parents and caregivers in their child’s education
• Regularly pursues and participates in professional development activities
• Continually innovates in order to implement cutting edge pedagogical approaches
• Leads or assists with co-curricular activities such as athletics, arts, or clubs
• Participates actively in the life of the school, including assuming co-curricular and extra-curricular duties as necessary and appropriate
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Music Education 

• Master’s degree preferred

• Three or more years of full-time teaching experience at the Middle School level preferred
• Desire to be part of building the larger school culture and community
• Commitment to an outstanding teaching practice, including the desire to constantly grow as a professional in order to better serve students
• Ability to communicate and partner effectively with parents and caregivers, administration, and colleagues
• Commitment to create and sustain a safe, equitable, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for all students
