The Nightingale-Bamford School is seeking a dynamic, dedicated educator to join our Physical Education Department for the Spring semester of the 2025–2026 school year. We are looking for individuals who are eager, creative, and flexible, and who are excited to work with students in grades K–12 in a collaborative and supportive environment. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics and Physical Education and is an exempt salaried position, long term leave replacement role.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
Teach physical education across all three divisions: Lower, Middle and Upper Schools
Implement a skill based curriculum that prompts an active and healthy lifestyle amongst students
Co-teach Lower school classes focusing on areas including but not limited to foundational locomotive movements, fitness, sport specific skills, team concepts and small games
Develop creative and innovative Middle School and Upper School classes with a focus on life long skills
Design engaging and relevant student-centered lessons
Collaborate with other faculty to infuse interdisciplinary strategies.
Participate actively in school life; assemblies, advisory, clubs, faculty meetings, professional development, and other community events
Must instill an enthusiasm for movement and fitness in students
Coach Middle and Upper School athletics (Swimming and Lacrosse Preferred)
Perform other school duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in physical education
Dual-certification in physical education preferred
3+ years experience teaching physical in a K-12 setting
Possess excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, the ability to be flexible, and a passion for working with children
Varsity level coaching experience
CPR and first aid certification
Demonstrated commitment to anti-racist work, equity and inclusion
Experience engaging with and adapting to diverse learners
Experience designing and implementing developmentally-appropriate and varied activities

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annualized base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000. Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Founded in 1920, Nightingale-Bamford is an independent school for girls, enrolling 679 students from Kindergarten through Class XII.
