TEMPORARY - Middle School Learning Specialist (Parental Leave Coverage)
Belmont Day School seeks a dynamic, skilled, and creative learning support specialist to join the learning support team and contribute to a program that will support students with diverse learning profiles. In the middle school, the learning support specialist will provide intervention and remediation; support teachers in teaching students with diverse learning needs in the classroom; teach sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Focus classes; and work with parents, students, and outside professionals to best support the needs of students.
A qualified candidate will also possess a strong enthusiasm, deep knowledge of, and familiarity with middle school students, a commitment to fostering and modeling our core values, and a clear understanding and dedication to equity and inclusion and infusing anti-bias and culturally responsive pedagogy.
This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position that runs from Monday, January 5, 2026 through Friday, April 9, 2026. This role is not eligible for benefits and reports to the assistant head of school. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored relocation.

Responsibilities
Work closely with the learning support team to contribute to a cohesive learning support program from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade.
Teach three sections of middle school Focus class, which targets executive functioning skills as well as previewing and reviewing content being taught in core academic classes.
Review professional testing reports, manage student learning profiles, and help coordinate the middle school SSAT and MAP assessment process.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and guide appropriate learning profiles and educational plans for students.
Assist teachers in classrooms to help differentiate and enrich curricular approaches and pedagogy.
Use formative and summative assessments to document student progress and achievement; assess and analyze student strengths and needs.
Work with families and faculty to recommend tutors and educational evaluators.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and plan follow-up meetings and assessments.
Keep careful anecdotal and assessment records and use them to contribute to writing accurate and comprehensive student reports.
Commit to fostering an equitable and inclusive community in and out of the classroom.
Engage with students routinely by providing coverage at lunch, recess, dismissal, or other duties as needed.
Plan, coordinate, and deliver training or professional development opportunities as needed.
Minimum of 3 years experience teaching this developmental age group
Training and experience in special education
Experience working in a learning support role
Certification and/or experience with strategies in differentiated instruction and executive functioning
Outstanding organizational skills
Deep appreciation for and commitment to building a cohesive and innovative community of learners
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to develop thematic curriculum
Commitment to professional development and best practices in teaching
Clear understanding and dedication to equity and inclusion and infusing anti-bias and culturally responsive pedagogy
Commitment to effective use of technology in the classroom
