Salary Range: $25 - $30. Placement in the range is commensurate with experience.

The Dalton School, a progressive K-12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is consistently recognized as one of the preeminent independent day schools in the nation. We are seeking to expand its Middle School Debate program by hiring a Debate Coach for our 7th and 8th grade New York Debate League team. Reporting to the Director of Auxiliary Programs, the ideal candidate will have experience working with Middle School age children in a Debate setting, and will be committed to nurturing a culture where inexperienced students are welcomed but each student is pushed to excel.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Head Coach to develop and execute practice plans for weekly meetings.
Provide feedback and coaching for our Middle School debate students.
Support our team of High School volunteer coaches.
Chaperone and coach students at debate tournaments.
Collaborate with the Middle School Administration to provide students individualized help and support, including maintaining consistent behavioral expectations.
Expected Hours:
Weekly debate practice (~3 hours, 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM every Wednesday afternoon).
Weekly prep meetings with the Head Debate Coach (~1 hour per week).
Weekend Debate tournaments.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
Experience coaching or teaching Debate; specific experience with the Middle School Public Debate Program (MSPDP) format is a plus.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work productively and collaboratively with a diverse faculty and student body in support of our students .
