Northfield Mount Hermon Summer Teaching Fellows Program: Turn Your Passion for Making a Difference into an Unforgettable Experience this Summer!
Northfield Mount Hermon isn’t just a school; it’s a vibrant, engaging and inclusive living and learning summer program for students in grades 7-12, in beautiful western Massachusetts. Since 1905, we have welcomed students from over 129 countries and all 50 states to our summer program, both to learn and to shape the future. Here, your passion for teaching and nurturing young minds will become a transformative experience.
Our NMH Summer Teaching Fellows Program is a hands-on, all-encompassing dive into the world of education. Picture yourself:
Interacting in the classroom: Assist lead teachers, plan and teach courses, and conduct extra-help sessions.
Inspiring beyond academics: Coach sports, supervise extracurricular activities, chaperone student field trips, and be the mentor you always wished you had.
Engaging meaningfully: Advise a group of six to eight students, sharing in their joys, challenges, and growth.
Who Are We Looking For?
Do you have a strong academic record and a heart that beats for teaching? Do you seek to change lives and make a difference? Are you ready for a challenge? Are you passionate about equity, inclusion, and anti-racist education? If yes, you are exactly the person we need.
We also are excited about the opportunity to hire teaching fellows looking to specialize in social media, ESOL/TESOL experience, or with grounding in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The Social Media specialist will work alongside our Communications department working on content for the NMH Summer website, social media coverage, publications, and our end-of-summer slideshow. The English-Language Immersion specialist will support our vibrant ELI program, teachers and students. And the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging specialist will focus on collaborating with our administrative and DEIB teams to support the development of DEIB programs and initiatives, track and evaluate the success of those programs, and organize spaces for diverse groups to gather while on campus.
Fellows will want to be fully immersed in the classroom, dorm and social activities, and should ideally hold a valid driving license and be willing to undertake training and a DOT exam to drive our AV/minibuses.
What Are the Benefits?
Your reward: In addition to a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy the comfort of housing and meals. It's like being part of a big, supportive family.
Your team: You’ll join 25 dedicated summer teaching fellows, each bringing their own unique spark to NMH.
Your guides: You’ll learn from seasoned educators who are expert teachers and will become lifelong mentors.

CHECK OUT WHAT NMH SUMMER TEACHING FELLOWS HAVE TO SAY:
“I think NMH has been perfecting the formula for their fellows for years, and it shows. The preparation was exceptional, the support was beyond compare, and the overall professionalism of the program was incredibly high. I have nothing to add that would improve the program. Great job!”
“Throughout my entire time at NMH Summer, I felt like all of my colleagues — directors, office staff, house directors, lead teachers —proactively supported my experience and were interested in my success at NMH and in my future career as a teacher. What a fantastic layer to this program. It’s really about the kids, but also about supporting the fellows. I am very thankful for this.”
“I can't believe it's all over. I loved having the freedom to experiment and discover aspects of my teaching abilities in a real classroom setting. NMH Summer definitely prepared me for my upcoming job; I cannot express how grateful I am to this program for preparing me for what's next.”
