Princeton Day School is seeking a dynamic, visionary Head of Libraries and Divisional Library Specialist to lead our three vibrant PreK–12 library spaces beginning in the 2026–27 school year. This position combines school-wide library leadership with hands-on divisional library work in either the Middle School or Upper School, guiding a talented team in creating welcoming, innovative learning environments at the heart of our intellectual and cultural life.
This role has two (2) key responsibilities:
Head of Libraries (PreK – 12)
Divisional Library Specialist (Middle School or Upper School)
Head of Libraries key responsibilities:
Manage and steward vibrant library spaces, including rotating and interactive displays, and provide oversight, management, and long-term vision for the library collection.
Partner with Division Heads, Academic Dean, Department Chairs, and faculty to build a curriculum that enables students to learn the skills of research, inquiry, and digital literacy in a constantly evolving world, particularly in the age of AI.
Continuously adapt the library program and collections to meet the evolving needs of our students.
In conversation with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, champion a diverse, inclusive reading culture that fosters lifelong literacy and provides both mirrors and windows for all of our students.
Provide modeling, expertise, and guidance to the library staff about excellent library services and practice.
Lead, support and supervise library staff, cultivating a collaborative, high-performing team.
Lead a service-oriented, state-of-the-art library that is fully integrated into the academic life of the division.
Work collaboratively with faculty and connect students to literature as a subject-matter expert.
Empower students to learn through inquiry and technology.
Manage daily operations of the divisional library, including budgetary resources and library staff.
Provide instruction in partnership with divisional colleagues.
Serve as the library technology expert.
Ensure alignment with the mission, goals, and objectives of Princeton Day School, including its strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS, MLIS, or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program.
At minimum of five years of professional school library experience with leadership and supervisory responsibilities.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, facilitate discussion, and lead groups to consensus.
Expertise in library educational technology and library resource integration.
Familiarity with AASL National School Library Standards and ALA policies and professional standards, particularly regarding collection management, intellectual freedom, equity of access, and ethical use of information.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, intellectually engaging, student-centered library environment with a foundational understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Dedication to ongoing professional growth and development.
Compensation Range: $81,500 - $122,000 a year based on Princeton Day School’s faculty salary scale (this role is eligible for benefits)
