Since 1800, when St. Madeleine Sophie Barat founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in France, Religious of the Society of the Sacred Heart and lay Sacred Heart educators have carried out her imperative of educational excellence. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart School is seeking a Lower School French teacher with expertise in teaching students in grades 1-6. Under the direct leadership of the Lower School Head, the Associate Lower School Head, in collaboration with the M-12 Discipline Chair, and guided by the Goals & Criteria, he/she will work independently and collaboratively to provide a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment for all learners.
Essential duties and responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
A commitment to the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart network schools as articulated in the school mission.
Strategically implement a variety of tools to teach students to read, write, listen to, and speak in French.
Organizing and managing a classroom environment to accomplish program goals safely and effectively.
Supporting students as they develop skills and attitudes essential to realize their full potential.
Modeling certain attributes of intelligence - academic, spiritual, and emotional - while demonstrating our belief in the dignity of all the students we serve.
Creating and defining goals and objectives for unit and daily lesson plans, preparing classroom activities, organizing teaching materials, evaluating student performance, maintaining classroom records, and managing time effectively.
Submitting grade reports and student comments at specified intervals.
Holding conferences with students, parents, administrators, and other professionals.
Engaging in curriculum reviews and collaborating on Discipline initiatives.
Participating in faculty meetings, liturgies, chapels, retreats, school assemblies, and special events such as, but not limited to, back-to-school night and admissions showcases.
Utilizing cognitive science and educational research to inform teaching practices.
Participating in reflective, self-directed, ongoing professional development.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Native or native-like fluency in French
A Bachelor’s degree is required
At least three to five years of teaching experience is preferred
Intercultural competency and a commitment to supporting social justice, inclusion, and diversity as articulated in the Sacred Heart Goals & Criteria.
