Reports to: Director of Athletics
Position Summary:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer, under the guidance of the Director of Athletics and Head Athletic Trainer, will oversee the health and well-being of student-athletes participating on our 30+ athletic teams across the Middle and Upper Schools. A successful candidate will understand and embrace the mission of Perkiomen School, possess a high-level of personal integrity, possess the ability to keep and maintain confidential health records of students, and demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills. We are committed to providing an athletic environment that emphasizes hard work and character development, promotes teamwork and sportsmanship, and allows our students to risk becoming their best.
Essential Functions:
Under the guidance of the Director of Athletics, work with students, parents, faculty, coaches, health center personnel, and administrators as a member of the athletic department administrative team
Obtains the ability to effectively evaluate, diagnose and treat athletic injuries and illnesses.
Obtains the ability to provide emergency care
Develop and demonstrate rehabilitation programs
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks at a time.
Strong communication with the Head Athletic Trainer.
Ability to think critically and make independent decisions.
Help develop and implement a comprehensive Emergency Action Plan related to athletics and athletic competitions
Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments for student-athletes
Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Student Health Center staff and work in conjunction with school health officials
Ensure that all coaches have up to date CPR and AED certifications
Maintain current relationships with outside specialists to better assist our student-athletes through the injury diagnosis and rehabilitation processes
Work alongside the Director of Strength and Conditioning to ensure student-athletes are being supported through prevention and rehabilitation programs
Work alongside the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Athletics on the athletic training budget and help maintain relationships with area vendors
Update and communicate safety plans seasonally, including but not limited to severe weather protocol, lightning, heat, cold, and other safety concerns
Implement the school’s concussion protocol, which includes monitoring symptoms, communicating with teachers about Return to Learning status and communicating with coaches about Return to Sport Status.
On-site point of contact for athletic training for all home athletic events throughout the school year.
The ability to occasionally travel with athletic teams to major sporting events and national tournaments.
Work alongside the athletic department to ensure compliance with all league and PAISAA (Pennsylvania Independent School Athletic Association) requirements and bylaws
In line with other faculty positions at a boarding school, perform duties as assigned by the Student Life Office pertaining to dorm coverage and weekend duties
Complete any other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
