Required Education:
4 Year Degree
Marin Academy is seeking an aspiring English teacher looking for a fellowship position in a progressive, collaborative school environment. The Independent School Teaching Residency (aka “Penn Fellows Program”) program is a master’s degree program run by the University of Pennsylvania. Enrolled students commit to a two-year teaching fellowship, teaching a reduced load in addition to completing online and in-person courses. Fellows will not only gain real-world, hands-on experience at Marin Academy, they will also—upon successful completion of the program—earn a master’s degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania.
Accepted Fellows will benefit from the guidance and mentorship of faculty members at Marin Academy and will be involved fully in the life of the school. In addition to teaching, Fellows will have the opportunity to advise, coach, and/or sponsor student clubs/organizations. Fellows will also run a minicourse and complete one full service to the school. Fellows will also participate in regular seminars dedicated to the exploration of critical issues in education, in addition to completing their coursework at Penn. You can find more information about the program here.

Successful candidates will have a degree in English and a willingness to teach 9th or 10th-grade students. Preferred candidates will be collaborative, highly organized, and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. In addition, we are looking for candidates who are eager to partner with us in service of our mission. At Marin Academy, we believe equity and inclusion are at the core of our mission, which calls on us “to think, question, and create in an environment of encouragement and compassion.” In challenging us “to accept the responsibilities posed by education in a democratic society,” the MA community seeks to envision and manifest a more just world and to actively grapple with the inequitable systems and structures that persist around us. These values are embedded in our teaching and learning. At MA, we recognize that creating an inclusive school is not a one-time act—it’s an ongoing process that requires continual attention and evolution. While we work to represent diverse voices within the curriculum, we also engage in reimagining our practices and culture to consider students’ lived experiences and needs.
The school is a vibrant and increasingly diverse community, and students and teachers alike continue to work towards the furthering of an inclusive and supportive school. Marin Academy is an equal-opportunity employer committed to excellence through diversity, and people of color and women are encouraged to apply.
