Position Description:
The Middle School Spanish Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate Spanish instruction for middle school students. This part-time position (four days per week) teaches two sections of 6th grade Spanish and two sections of 7th grade Spanish. With the addition of 8th grade the following year, this role is expected to grow into a full-time position.
The teacher fosters a love of language learning while building students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish, and supports Wesley Prep’s mission of inspiring confident and joyful learners guided by curiosity, character, and purpose. This position is well-suited for an educator who values middle school learners, collaboration, and the opportunity to help build a growing world language program.
Essential Functions:
Support Wesley Prep’s mission of inspiring confident and joyful learners guided by curiosity, character, and purpose.
Plan and deliver dynamic Spanish instruction aligned with best practices in world language education and middle school development.
Teach two sections of 6th grade Spanish and two sections of 7th grade Spanish, four days per week.
Prepare to expand instruction to include 8th grade Spanish as the program grows.
Create a classroom environment that encourages risk-taking, curiosity, and appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Assess student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Maintain clear, professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
Collaborate with middle school faculty and participate in meetings and professional learning as appropriate for a part-time role.
Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grading, and curriculum planning.
Model professionalism, warmth, and positive relationships with students and colleagues.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, World Languages, Education, or a related field required.
Demonstrated proficiency in Spanish (spoken and written).
Middle school or upper elementary teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge of adolescent development and effective instructional strategies for middle school learners.
Experience or interest in helping build and grow a developing Spanish program.
Adaptability & Teamwork: Ability to work flexibly with diverse classroom needs and collaborate with teaching teams.
Self-Starter: Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, and work independently in a part-time role.
Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
Commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching practices.
Physical Stamina: Ability to sit, kneel, stand, and actively participate in a dynamic classroom environment with middle school students.
