The Town School is a nursery through 8th Grade co-educational school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Town embraces high academic and ethical standards for each student, and all members of the community are guided by our school motto, “Let there be joy in learning.”
Town seeks a potential Kindergarten Co-Head Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The salary for this position is $66,000- $113,300. *Base salaries do not reflect additional compensation based on degree level and stipends.
Teaching Responsibilities
Plans and implements a well-balanced curriculum which includes daily activities designedto meet the needs of the children and consistent with early childhood theory and
practice. Stated and written curriculum will be reviewed on a regular basis.
Participates in weekly planning meetings; evaluates performance with the Division Head
Works with other homeroom teachers and specialists to promote cross-curricular integration
Communicates additionally with families about student performance as warranted
Attends Guidance meetings
Sets up the classroom environment so as to provide developmentally appropriate
equipment and materials
Designs and maintains a safe and healthy classroom
Maintains the upkeep of equipment, and organizes clearly defined play areas
Assists the Admissions Office with the interview process for prospective studentsentering the Division
Continues to grow professionally by attending workshops, conferences, inservice training, currentliterature, coursework
Demonstrates commitment to equity, and supportive of Town’s Statement on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity; demonstrated personal growth and accomplishment in this area preferred
Administrative Responsibilities
Writes monthly newsletter and weekly Ask Abouts
Presents at parent coffees and Curriculum Night
Fulfills drop-off, lunch, recess, and dismissal duties
Meets Early Risers obligations
Attends faculty meetings
Provides lesson plans for substitute teachers when absences occur
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s in Early Childhood or related field required; Master’s preferred
At least three years experience teaching this or similar age group
A love of children, a desire to collaborate, is flexible, and has a sense of humor
