Job Summary:
The Director of Sports Performance/US Assistant AD reports to the Director of Athletics and Physical Education. This dual role supports the management of the Upper School’s (grades 9-12) athletic programs and oversees US athletics, while leading the design, implementation and oversight of comprehensive sports performance programs for all US teams and beginning programming for MS teams. With the Director of Athletics, this role helps to supervise the US coaching staff, coordinate training programs and assist in the daily operations of the athletic department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operations of the school’s fitness and weight training facilities
Helps ADs hire, orient, mentor, and evaluate coaches in the athletic department
US game management and coverage of support staff
Establish PE offerings, hire instructors, coordinate space used for courses in partnership with the head of the US
Duties/Responsibilities:
Director of Sports Performance
Design and implement safe, effective and sport-specific sports performance programs for all US athletic teams and beginning programming for MS
Educate student-athletes and coaches on injury prevention, recovery, nutrition and proper lifting techniques
Collaborate with athletic trainers to ensure coordinated care for injured athletes and safe return to play protocols
Maintain records of student-athlete progress and performance testing/tracking software
Communicate with coaches to align training with in-season and off-season demands
Provide winter and summer hours for training blocks
Support school health and wellness programming and co-curriculars
US Assistant Athletic Director
Supports the school’s mission at athletic contests related to player, coach, and fan behavior
Assist with season prep and logistics
Assess equipment, order new equipment and arrange for the repair of any broken equipment
Order, inventory, and track uniforms for all US sports
Coordinate and approve “gear” for US sports teams
Coordinate student billing for uniforms, equipment and gear
Coordinator for the US seasonal athletic celebration and awards ceremony
Review records of all athletes for three seasons recognition and the Varsity blanket
Communicate with parents, school nurses, counselors, faculty, division heads, coaches and athletic staff about scheduling and student information
Obtain and maintain a van driver permit
Additional duties assigned by the Athletic Director
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of strength and conditioning methodologies performance technology and best practices in athletic development
Previous experience designing and implementing sports performance programs in a school setting
Strong time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Proficient in Veracross, Finalsite, Gmail and other Google and Microsoft Platforms
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong supervisory and leadership skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Work collaboratively with others
Outstanding judgment and professionalism
Being positive, friendly, warm, and dedicated
Promote safe and appropriate practices and competitions
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in related field required, Masters degree preferred
CSCS (NSCA) or SCCC (CSCCa) required
Preferred at least one additional relevant certification such as: USAW NSCA, TSAC, RYT 200, NASM CPT
Possesses First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
Familiar with FAA and NEPSAC league rules, bylaws, and contacts
Physical Requirements:
Ability to demonstrate lifting techniques and lead strength workouts
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
The ability to help set up and break down equipment in gymnasiums and fields
