Teacher of Instrumental Music
As a member of the Performing Arts team, the successful candidate will be a qualified music teacher experienced in teaching woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments to students in Middle and Senior School levels. The role includes teaching band classes, delivering one-to-one instrumental lessons, and leading large and small ensembles. This position also involves preparing students for ABRSM examinations, including theory and report writing, and contributing to courses aligned with the British Columbia Curriculum where applicable.
Responsibilities
Teach woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments to students across Middle and Senior School levels
Teach band classes and provide individual instrumental instruction
Lead and direct large and small ensembles, rehearsals, and performances
Prepare students for ABRSM practical and theory examinations, including written reporting
Contribute to the planning and delivery of instrumental and ensemble programs aligned with curriculum expectations
Create a differentiated, inclusive, and highly motivating learning environment in which students can thrive musically and personally
Employ a range of teaching strategies to support skill development, musicianship, and ensemble performance
Use appropriate assessment and feedback practices to support student growth and progress
Contribute actively to performances, concerts, and the wider cultural life of the School
Willingness to participate in extracurricular activities and the broader life of the School
Willingness to provide cover for absences and/or undertake additional duties as required
Minimum Qualifications, Experience & Skills
A recognised graduate qualification at the university level, with appropriate academic credentials in Music or Music Education
A minimum of three years’ teaching experience at the Middle and/ or Senior School level
Licensure with, or eligibility for licensure by, the Bermuda Educators Council
Demonstrated expertise in teaching woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments
Strong ensemble leadership skills, including experience directing bands and instrumental groups
A reflective, lifelong learner committed to professional growth and continuous improvement
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work positively with students, colleagues, and parents
Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment
Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Strategic Priorities of Saltus
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, diplomacy, and tact
Commitment to student safeguarding, wellbeing, and child protection best practices
Relevant student safety certifications (e.g., SCARS, First Aid/ CPR/AED) are preferred or must be obtained
A clean criminal record
