Founded in 1957, Catholic Memorial is a Catholic, private school in Boston, Massachusetts,
grounded in the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers tradition. It serves approximately 600 young men across grades 7-12 from various communities across Massachusetts. Catholic Memorial continues its commitment to an authentic, holistic formation within the parameters of the Catholic Memorial Mission Statement, and its strategic plan.
The Principal serves as the chief academic and student life officer of Catholic Memorial and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school as well as the cultivation of an educational environment rooted in the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers tradition.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting directly to the President, the Principal provides visionary leadership in curriculum development, teaching and learning, faculty formation, student formation, and the integration of faith and learning throughout all aspects of the student experience.
As a member of the President's Leadership Team, the Principal plays a key role in the overall strategic direction and vision for the school across all operational areas including Advancement, Finance, Enrollment, Facilities, Marketing and Communications. The Principal leads the Principal's Team, comprised of the Vice-Principal of Grades 9-12, Vice-Principal of Mission, Vice-Principal of Teaching and Learning, Vice-Principal of Academic Operations, Vice-Principal of the Middle School, Athletics Director, and Director of Counseling and Student Success, delegating responsibilities strategically while maintaining accountability for the comprehensive educational program.
The Principal is called to be an educational leader and minister, serving as a visible witness to the Gospel and ensuring that every decision, program, and initiative reflects Catholic Memorial's commitment to forming young men of depth and conviction.

Primary Responsibilities
Mission Integration & Catholic Identity
Serve as guardian and promotor of Catholic Memorial's Catholic identity and Edmund Rice charism
Ensure that the Essential Elements permeate all dimensions of school life -- academic, cocurricular, and relational
Partner with the President and Campus Ministry to animate the school's commitment to social justice, service, and solidarity with those on the margins
Model and inspire Gospel values in leadership style, decision-making, and interpersonal relationships
Cultivate partnerships with families that support the shared mission of forming young men of faith and character
Executive Leadership & Team Development
Lead and develop the Principal's Team
Delegate responsibilities strategically across the Principal's Team while maintaining clear accountability structures and collaborative decision-making processes
Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-one meetings with team members, establish goals and performance metrics, and provide mentorship and professional development for direct reports
Foster a cohesive leadership culture marked by shared mission, mutual support, and collective responsibility for student and institutional success
As a member of the President's Leadership Team, contribute substantively to school-wide strategic planning, institutional priorities, and decision-making
Partner with President and fellow leadership team members to ensure alignment and integration across all areas of the school
Academic Leadership & Educational Excellence
Oversee all aspects of the academic program for grades 7-12, ensuring rigorous, relevant, and faith-integrated curriculum and pedagogy that prepares young men for college and life
Work closely with the Vice-Principal of Teaching and Learning to lead curriculum design, instructional innovation, and assessment practices
Collaborate with the Vice-Principal of Academic Operations on scheduling, registration, academic policies, and transcript management
Partner with the Vice-Principal of the Middle School to ensure developmental appropriateness and seamless transition from grades 7-8 to the upper school
Monitor student academic progress, implementing intervention strategies and support systems for students at all achievement levels
Ensure that academic programming aligns with the school's mission, strategic plan, and the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice education
Faculty Development & Formation
Recruit, hire, evaluate, and support a diverse faculty committed to the mission of Catholic Memorial and the Edmund Rice tradition
Delegate faculty supervision and evaluation responsibilities to the Vice-Principals while maintaining oversight and accountability
Foster a culture of continuous professional growth through mentorship, coaching, and targeted professional development opportunities
Cultivate faculty understanding of and commitment to the Essential Elements, particularly the integration of faith and learning
Lead faculty formation initiatives that deepen understanding of adolescent male development and effective pedagogical strategies for young men
Build and sustain a collaborative faculty culture marked by excellence, innovation, and genuine care for students
Student Formation & Pastoral Care
Oversee all aspects of student life, including discipline as part of pastoral care, counseling services, campus ministry, athletics, and co-curricular activities
Partner with the Director of Counseling and Student Success to ensure robust pastoral care and support systems that attend to the spiritual, emotional, social, and physical well-being of all students
Collaborate with the Athletics Director to ensure athletic programs reflect the school's mission and contribute to the holistic formation of students
Work with Campus Ministry to create meaningful opportunities for prayer, service, retreat experiences, and faith formation
Implement restorative and formative discipline practices that call students to accountability while honoring their inherent dignity
Champion initiatives that foster an inclusive community where every student experiences belonging and is challenged to grow
Cultivate student leadership opportunities that form young men as servants and leaders in their communities
Operational Leadership
Oversee daily school operations, including scheduling, facilities usage, safety protocols, and emergency preparedness
Collaborate actively as a member of the President's Leadership Team on strategic planning, enrollment management, institutional advancement, financial planning, facilities
management, and marketing and communications
Provide critical input and leadership in areas including student recruitment and retention, alumni engagement, donor relations, capital projects, and external communications
Manage the academic and student life budget in alignment with school priorities
Ensure compliance with relevant accreditation standards, state regulations, and diocesan policies
Foster strong communication and collaboration across all divisions and departments
Visible Presence & Community Engagement
Maintain a highly visible and accessible presence throughout the school day, engaging regularly with students, faculty, and staff
Attend and actively participate in enrollment events including open houses, prospective student shadow days, admitted student events, and enrollment interviews, serving as a compelling ambassador for Catholic Memorial's mission and programs
Represent the school at athletics events, theater productions, concerts, academic
competitions, service projects, and other co-curricular activities, demonstrating genuine interest in and support for the full range of student endeavors
Participate in key community engagement events
Attend student retreats, prayer services, liturgies, and other spiritual formation experiences as a visible witness to the school's Catholic identity
Represent Catholic Memorial at external functions including educational conferences, diocesan meetings, Edmund Rice network gatherings, accreditation activities, and
community partnership events
Serve as a public face of the school, building relationships with peer institutions, community organizations, and educational leaders across the region
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or related field
Minimum of 7 years of teaching or administrative experience in secondary education
Demonstrated success in leading and developing administrative teams
Proven ability to contribute strategically to institutional planning and operations across multiple functional areas
Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the ability to articulate and advance the Catholic mission
Deep understanding of adolescent male development and effective strategies for educating young men
Proven leadership in curriculum development, faculty supervision, and student formation
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders — students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community
Willingness and ability to maintain a robust presence at school events, including evenings and weekends, demonstrating commitment to the full life of the school community
