Position Summary
The Fessenden School seeks an experienced and passionate Lacrosse Coach to work with boys in Grades 7–9. The Varsity Lacrosse Coach will foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth while instilling a strong understanding and appreciation of lacrosse. The ideal candidate will emphasize the school’s core values of honesty, compassion, and respect while coaching students to develop their skills and character on and off the field. This is a seasonal position running from March 31st, 2026, to May 22nd, 2026, with daily practices held on our turf playing fields.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and Model Core Values: Inspire students to practice honesty, compassion, and respect through sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance.
- Plan and Lead Practices: Oversee daily practices (various times, typically from 3:00-4:25 pm), teaching lacrosse techniques, strategies, and self-care to support physical and mental development.
- Mentor Student-Athletes: Develop relationships with students to build their confidence, resilience, and leadership skills both on and off the field.
- Collaborate with Assistant Coach: Coordinate player rotations, design and run training plans, and oversee equipment and field preparation.
- Ensure Safety: Supervise students during practice sessions and competitions.
- Drive Team Transportation: Occasionally, transport students to and from games in a school van.
Schedule
- March 31st, 2026 - May 22nd, 2026
- Daily practice from 3:10 PM to 4:25 PM. There are also home and away games that happen on school days.
- Saturday tournament commitment on May 16th at The Fay School in Southborough, MA.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience coaching lacrosse or equivalent experience as a competitive lacrosse player.
- Strong understanding of lacrosse technique and game preparation.
- Enthusiasm for working with middle school students and fostering their growth.
- Ability to build meaningful relationships and promote a positive, inclusive team culture.
- Active and valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of coaching experience.
- Lacrosse experience at the collegiate level.
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
Compensation
The range for this position is $4,000-$5,000 per season, depending on qualifications and experience.
