JOB DESCRIPTION
PHYSICAL EDUCATION/PHYSICAL HEALTH TEACHER
Reports to: Division Head
Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt, 10-month position
Summary: To provide comprehensive physical education and physical health instruction to students ranging from Early Education to Grade 8.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Align, plan, and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education and physical health lessons aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy, state and national standards, and school curriculum goals.
Promote physical literacy, movement skills, fitness, cooperation, and healthy lifestyle habits.
Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and interests of students.
Maintain, organize, and inventory the materials used in the P.E. department, as well as securing equipment in storage daily.
Teach and model sportsmanship and respect.
Participate in IB curriculum planning, professional development, and school initiatives.
Maintain up-to-date academic performance records in grading systems and complete parent-teacher conference documentation for both scheduled reporting cycles and ongoing communication.
Coach two athletic sports per year.
Support the school and its leadership.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School and Head of School.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
Minimum 2 years of related teaching experience in K-8 school or educational setting.
Proven success in curricular instruction and coaching multiple sports.
A comprehensive understanding of the application of best practices, inquiry-based instruction, backwards design, and formative/summative assessment
Proven ability to engender a real love of learning.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus, both internal and external.
Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders of the school.
Highly ethical team player with a professional demeanor and willingness to work as a member of multiple curricular teams.
Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS office suite and Google Workspace.
Enthusiasm for the mission of St. Mary’s and a genuine love for education and community- building.
