The Country School is seeking a passionate, experienced, student-centered First Grade Homeroom teacher. Successful candidates will have experience developing the academic and social-emotional growth of students within the lower elementary age range. In this position, the teacher leads instruction in reading, language arts, math, and social studies, as well as in general, social-emotional homeroom curriculum. Strong applicants will have a deep commitment to child-centered instruction and a demonstrated knowledge of various up-to-date language arts practices. Background and training in Orton-Gillingham instruction and EnVisions Mathematics curriculum is preferred, but not required. Strong candidates will have demonstrated experience in highly collaborative instructional environments.
The Country School is located in Easton, MD, and serves students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade with a total enrollment of approximately 330 students. The Lower School serves approximately 185 students in grades Pre-K - 4th. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will be a full participant in the life of the Lower School, including serving as lunch and recess monitors.
Start Date is August 24, 2026.
Qualifications & Skills:
Orientation to progressive philosophy and teaching methods
College degree (B.A./B.S. minimum; M.A. preferred)
Formal training in teaching math and language arts
Teaching experience in the lower school level (3+ years preferred)
Knowledge of elementary pedagogy and curriculum
Interest in curriculum development, assessment, and differentiated instruction
Computer literacy and experience in integrating technology when needed
Personal skills needed to work collaboratively with other faculty

Salary
The Country School’s salary range for this full-time position is from $48,000 to $68,000 and is based on factors such as years of experience, qualifications, full-time status, and schedule. If selected for the role, your salary will be determined by your experience and qualifications.

Tuition Remission
Under current policy, employees who are employed at TCS full-time are eligible to receive tuition remission for their children who attend our school. The first child receives 50% tuition remission, each additional child is eligible for 25% tuition remission.
- Employee children must meet the same standards for admission as all other applicants. Employees may apply for financial assistance through our need-based tuition assistance program.
