We are seeking a 5th Grade Teacher and House Advisor to join the Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. The Dalton Middle School encompasses 4th – 8th grades and the 5th grade team has five House Advisors that each work with approximately 18 students. Our 5th grade House Advisors teach an integrated Language Arts and Social Studies class, co-teach Math with specialists, and support their advisees through our House curriculum.
The ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about progressive elementary and early middle school education and differentiation. We seek teachers who are enthusiastic about working collaboratively to improve pedagogy and to design innovative curriculum that addresses the whole child. The 5th Grade teacher is responsible for instruction and curriculum development in social studies and language arts. Curricular content in Social Studies highlights the development of cities in history, including Bronze Age Mesopotamia and Egypt, and examination of this curriculum will be a part of the coming years. In Language Arts there is a focus on character identity across books and genres. The writing process, which incorporates links to literary studies and social studies explorations, is at the core of the teaching and learning in the classroom. The 5th grade team strives to select texts and documents that reflect the diversity of our world and collaborates on House lessons meant to integrate social-emotional learning, work around inclusion, health and wellness activities, and digital communication and citizenship. Additionally, 5th grade teachers also co-instruct math classes with a math teacher in a heterogenous, differentiated math classroom setting.
Responsibilities:
Teach Language Arts and Social Studies (LASS).
Collaboratively develop LASS curriculum with other House Advisors, Learning Support Specialists, and Department Chairs.
Team Teach Math with a member of the Math Department in a heterogenous, differentiated math classroom setting.
House Advise, serving as the primary point of contact for the students and parents.
Collaborate with other Grade 5 House Advisors to develop House curriculum on grade-specific topics and community building programs. House lessons cover a wide range of topics, including social-emotional learning, health and wellness activities, and lessons on digital communication and citizenship
Communicate frequently about student progress, including leading family conferences twice a year.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
Experience teaching upper Elementary/early Middle School grades (3-6), in Language Arts, Social Studies and Math.
Experience developing humanities curriculum.

Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong commitment to collaborate in support of students and the curriculum.
