Hackley School seeks a coordinator for its Independent Science Research Program for the 2026-2027 school year. The preferred candidate has a proven track record of leading science research programs or mentoring high school students in original, independent research. They must also have upper school teaching experience and hold an undergraduate degree, though a graduate degree is preferred. Candidates should also have a strong interest in the academic, social, and emotional well-being of Upper School students; be willing to work collaboratively with the science department and the broader faculty community; be willing to work as an academic advisor to Upper School students; and be interested in contributing to the extracurricular life of Hackley’s Upper School. The candidate’s teaching load will include several sections of Upper School Independent Science Research as well as courses in other scientific disciplines. Additional responsibilities include advising and other student activities as needed.
Reporting Structure
The Independent Science Research Program Coordinator reports to the Science Department Chair and the Director of Upper School.
Specific Responsibilities
Teaching two courses in independent science research, mentoring students in the process of connecting with outside scientific mentors, and facilitating the presentation of their research.
Teaching two additional courses within the science department (physics preferred).
Responsibilities associated with a subject-area teacher include lesson planning, development and assignment of student learning activities, student assessment, record keeping, grading, and grade reporting.
Creation of a warm and engaging classroom environment.
Active, positive, and professional participation in all faculty meetings.
Participation and support for the growth of the department’s instructional program, including collaborative curriculum development and alignment.
Differentiation of teaching and learning based on individual student needs.
A teaching load based on faculty strengths and department needs.
Effective communication with parents, department chair, and administration.
Other division-based responsibilities as assigned by the division director.
Qualifications:
BS in a science-related field required; MA or MS preferred.
Prior teaching experience required, and experience with original research preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
The current salary range for this 10-month faculty position is $76,226–$116,239, with experience informing a base salary as published in Hackley’s faculty salary stage scale.
