Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for a full-time, 12-month Upper School production manager in the performing arts department beginning August 2026. We are looking for individuals with a degree in theater production or a related field who have experience working in an academic setting with Upper School or college students. Experience working specifically in independent, public, private, or charter schools is a plus.
The responsibility of the Production & Department Manager is to realize the visions of the director, choreographer, and design team for each production in the Performing Arts department. The position also involves coordinating the operations of the various disciplines within each production (scenic, costumes, lighting, sound, projection, stage management, front of house, touring, etc.).
It is expected that a candidate would:
Serve as the production manager, lighting and projection designer, and/or sound engineer for a minimum of 14 mainstage theater, dance, and music concerts per year
Provide sound and lighting support for other events and meetings that take place in the US theater
Collaborate with the calendar committee about use of theater space for purposes outside of performing arts
Train and supervise students in best practices for stage management, lighting production, and sound production while ensuring a safe and efficient execution of these elements
Manage the budget document, expense coding and ticketing website for the department
Work closely with performing arts faculty, students, and freelance designers on the execution of their designs
Collaborate with faculty directors, student directors, and guest directors on their vision
Maintain the performing arts facilities and equipment with the performing arts faculty
Serve as tour manager with the performing arts faculty sponsor if/when different groups travel
Have knowledge of Vectorworks, Arkaos, Qlab, as well as ETC Ion lighting console, and Shure wireless microphone system
Fulfill supervisory duties as needed
Utilize experience with electrical wiring, carpentry, and rigging to set lighting, sound, and video equipment
Engage in professional and personal development with a consistent commitment to growth
Participate and initiate opportunities that demonstrate one's growth, knowledge, and skills
Perform additional duties of a production manager as designated by the Department Chair or the Senior Administrative Team

COMPENSATION: Brentwood School's employment requirements vary, from positions requiring no experience to those needing 20+ years of expert experience. Our salary range includes all levels of experience, from $70,000 - $95,000. Salaries are determined based on years of experience, education, full- or part-time status, the category of the role, and the number of months worked per school year. Salary ranges do not include benefits, i.e. 403b retirement matching, paid lunch time, free breakfast and lunch, free parking, subsidy toward medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D plans, and generous time off. The pay range is an estimate and is not guaranteed. If hired, your actual base salary will be determined by your education, experience, and category.
