The Speyer Legacy School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and passionate full-time kindergarten teacher. The candidate hired will report to the Head of Lower School. The candidate will be responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to teach in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate possesses creative problem-solving skills, a sense of humor, enthusiasm for designing innovative curriculum, a positive attitude toward change, and strong interpersonal skills that allow one to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and implement academically rigorous, interdisciplinary, inquiry-based units and lessons which reflect knowledge of curriculum development, students’ interests and abilities, students’ social and emotional needs, and gifted education.
- Establish and implement classroom procedures and routines, building class community.
- Assess students' performance, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional.
- Prepare student reports which include narrative descriptions of students' profiles, interests, areas of growth and needs.
- Communicate regularly with families about classroom happenings and student progress.
- Regularly demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning for both students and colleagues.
- Actively pursue professional development rooted in individual and schoolwide goals.
- Support community and individual social-emotional learning through everyday life in the classroom and through planned IFSEL lessons.
- Demonstrate a desire to integrate technology meaningfully into the classroom.
- Collaborate with colleagues, across and within disciplines and divisions, to further develop curriculum and design interdisciplinary projects/units of study.
- Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, and school duties.
- Promote respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as core values of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community.
- Engage respectfully with families and demonstrate sensitivity to cultures, values, configurations, and beliefs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of child development, best practices, and current trends in gifted education.
- Experience in inquiry-based education, balanced literacy instruction, and the readers/writers workshop model.
- Embraces a concept-based, problem-solving, hands-on approach to math pedagogy.
- Demonstrated classroom management skills, including allocating time, space, and materials for most effective learning.
- Experience in differentiated instruction.
- Creativity and innovation in both curriculum and instruction.
- Versatility and flexibility both within and outside of the classroom, encouraging students to think creatively, work collaboratively, embrace failure with a growth mindset, and communicate effectively with others.
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Desire to collaborate productively with a team of teachers.
- Skill in creating a learning environment that is challenging, motivating, and developmentally appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required.
- Masters Degree and experience in gifted education preferred.
