The Savannah Country Day School is seeking a Director of Fine & Performing Arts. This 12-month role is a component of the Senior Leadership Team and reports to the Head of School. Under minimal supervision, the Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing functions that fulfil the mission, goals, and objectives of the Fine & Performing Arts Division, in addition to instructional responsibilities. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Represents the Savannah Country Day School Fine & Performing Arts Department internally and externally by attending all Fine & Performing Arts Events, as well as community and school outreach/admissions events.
- Serves on the school’s Senior Leadership Team, attends meetings/functions, and presents departmental information and updates as needed. Functions as a liaison between the Senior Leadership Team and Fine & Performing Arts faculty/staff.
- Develops and/or contributes to the development of policies and procedures relative to the Fine & Performing Arts Department and school wide.
- Directs Fine & Performing Arts curriculum/sequencing and recommends curriculum changes as necessary. Serves as a member of the school Curriculum Committee.
- Manages the annual Fine & Performing Arts Department calendar, in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team. Ensures communication of scheduled events, to include placement on the school-wide calendar.
- Teaches Fine & Performing Arts courses in area of knowledge. Evaluates student progress and ensures learning outcomes are appropriately recorded.
- Supervises all Fine Arts/Music faculty in levels K-12. Conducts regular departmental meetings and communicates pertinent information effectively. Covers Fine & Performing Arts classes as needed.
- Facilitates performance evaluations of all Fine & Performing Arts faculty and staff at scheduled intervals.
- Conducts regular classroom observations, provides mentorship and coaching as necessary.
- Communicates regularly with parents, attends parent meetings, and addresses parent concerns regarding student progress/performance.
- Partners with Human Resources to coordinate the interview and selection process for Fine & Performing Arts positions.
- Manages all aspects of the Fine & Performing Arts departmental budgets. Makes annual budget proposals, approves/monitors spending, and makes adjustments as necessary.
- Serves as liaison/moderator for the Savannah Country Day School Arts Alliance. Attends Arts Alliance meetings. Ensures communication of Arts Alliance proposals and events.
- Supervises Arts Alliance budget/grant activity. Approves/recommends Arts Alliance grant applications. Oversees disbursement of Arts Alliance funds.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Education, Fine Arts, Music, Theatre, Art, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Five (5) years’ experience teaching Arts related courses.
- Education and/or experience in Drama or Theatre strongly preferred.
- Supervisory/leadership experience, to include supervision of staff and budget management preferred.
- Experience in curriculum development, instructional methodology, academic planning, and program evaluation preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
Physical Demands
Work is typically performed in a classroom/office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts or carries objects of a light-medium weight, up to 25 pounds. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized.
