Falk School, a coeducational K-8 laboratory school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, seeks an experienced, dynamic School Counselor, for the next academic year beginning August 2023.
Candidates should have successful counseling experience in elementary and/or middle-level schools. The counselor at Falk will be responsible for continuing to develop a counseling program that features:
- Classroom lessons on social-emotional learning topics
- An emphasis on restorative practices
- One-on-one and small-group student counseling sessions
- High School guidance and application services (for graduating 8th-grade students and their families)
- Consultation services for teachers and families/guardians
The position involves working with colleagues to co-plan and reflect on the developing K-8 wellness program. The successful candidate will have strong collaborative skills and a willingness to support educational research. Strong skills in oral and written communication will be required to communicate effectively with children, teachers, and families. The ideal candidate will also serve as a liaison to community agencies, child psychologists/therapists, and a Falk psychological consultant which at times involves referrals to needed services.
A Master's Degree in counseling (or related field) and Pennsylvania school counseling certification K-8, are preferred. Elementary/middle school experience is advantageous, and interesting work and/or educational experience in the field of psychology and counseling is beneficial for the position. A commitment to restorative practices as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion work are all assets.
