Position Description
The Upper School mathematics teacher position is an exciting opportunity for a highly-skilled, dedicated individual to be a significant contributor to an outstanding faculty. The Upper School math teacher will have the primary responsibility for planning and teaching math courses in alignment with the Upper School curriculum. Additionally, the teacher will be responsible for evaluating and reporting for all students in their classes. The teaching load is five sections with up to three preparations and total student contacts between 75 and 100. Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to the full life of the school through coaching robotics, coaching within the Middle or Upper School athletic program, or sponsoring major student organizations.
Qualifying Characteristics
The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for teaching multiple levels of mathematics ranging from Algebra and Geometry to Calculus and/or Statistics. The candidate will be a dynamic, student-centered, success-oriented individual who embraces the mission of the Walker School and the shared vision of the Upper School. A genuine affection for children, a belief in the growth mindset, and dedication to doing what is best for students, combined with a passion for the subject matter are necessary for being a successful teacher at the Walker School. The teacher will work with other teachers and staff as a contributing team member to create and sustain a cooperative and positive work environment. All Walker teachers are expected to model professional standards and commitment as they teach and pursue other duties in the school, whether it is club sponsorship or athletic coaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a grade-level advisor for 10-15 students
- Be available for students from 3:15– 3:45 every afternoon for extra work/tutorial time
- Perform required supervisory duties (i.e. lunchroom, carpool supervision, chaperoning grade-level events, etc.) as required
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other conferences as required
- Participate in admission-related activities (i.e. Open Houses) as needed
- Participate in the life of the school by coaching or advising extracurricular activities

- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience with project-based learning
- Openness to feedback and improvement, modeling lifelong learning of practice as well as a subject area
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced University degree
- Understanding of independent schools
