The Assistant Head of Middle School for Student Life reports to the Head of Middle School and works closely with students, faculty, parents, and other administrators to support students in the Middle School. In consultation with the Head of Middle School, they oversee student behavior and discipline and the daily operations of the Middle School. The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Head of Middle School for Student Life are supervising students during the school day, coordinating extracurricular events, and overseeing aspects of the Advisory Program. They are also an integral member of the MS Leadership Team, collaborating with the Assistant Head of Middle School for Academics, the Middle School Counselor, and the Head of Middle School.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees student discipline and maintain records for students in grades 6-8, with the assistance of the Head of Middle School
- Maintain high visibility throughout the Middle School campus to ensure student supervision and safety
- Support faculty by providing classroom management guidance to foster a positive learning environment
- Assist with administrative follow up regarding student attendance
- Work in tandem with MS Counselor and Assistant Head of Middle School for Academics to foster and promote student success
- Plan, coordinate, and execute all student activities on and off campus, including class trips
- Assist the Counselor with oversight and implementation of the Middle School Advisory Program
- Serve on the all-school administrative team
- Assist Head of Middle School with divisional calendar, special events, and annual handbook revisions
- Assist with divisional transition events and programming for rising 6th and 9th-grade students
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in an academic subject field or education
- 5+ years of Middle School teaching experience
- Administrative leadership experience; independent school experience preferred
- Highly knowledgeable in child development with an expertise in the needs and behaviors unique to middle school-age students
