Ursuline Academy invites applications for the position of Head Coach for the Varsity Lacrosse Team. This is a paid, part-time position, reporting to the Director of Athletics. Qualified candidates will possess relevant lacrosse coaching experience with an emphasis on socio-emotional learning and personal development. We seek to hire someone with a strong character, an in-depth knowledge of the elements of the sport, and an ability to communicate with high school players at varying skill levels effectively. Ideal coaching candidates must have experience coaching at the high school, club, and/or college level.
The Head Coach must have a working knowledge of DIAA Rules and Regulations as it applies to interscholastic lacrosse and the application of the most current NFHS girls lacrosse rulebook. In addition, the Head Coach must be a member of the state coaches’ association and attend meetings to ensure that Ursuline athletes are properly advocated for. The lacrosse season runs from February through early June with expectations of overseeing out-of-season development opportunities for athletes over the off-season.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support of Ursuline’s mission, students, and overall athletic program
- Overall supervision of the lacrosse program including Varsity and Junior Varsity teams
- Responsible for the general welfare and health of student-athletes
- Collaboration and program oversight with the coaching staff
- Delegation of assignments to the assistant coaches
- Supervise and mentor assistant coaches in a manner commensurate with athletic department policy and vision
- Contributes by personal example to an atmosphere of faith commitment consistent with Catholic values and our founder St. Angela Merici.
- Respects, cooperates, and maintains a positive attitude with colleagues (faculty and staff), students, parents, and alumnae, and exemplifies the core values.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with student-athletes, parents, and school administration
- Learn and apply DIAA Rules and Regulations, DIAA Sportsmanship Code, and NFHS sport rules effectively
- Evaluate athlete performance and provide real-time suitable feedback, balancing criticism with positivity and motivation
- Provide a positive and rewarding student-athlete experience while competing for Ursuline Academy
- Advocate on behalf of deserving players eligible for postseason awards/accolades and other scholarships
- Responsible for providing a roster list of uniforms distributed to the Athletic Director
- Completion of an “End of Season” Report that includes season results, team and individual honors, evaluation of assistant coaches, equipment requests, inventory of distributed, and returned items
- Attend district and state coaches' meetings as required
- Evaluate, break down, and review film; prior experience with HUDL preferred
- Assist and contribute content to Athletic Department social media campaigns to showcase lacrosse program
- Meeting with parents/guardians at the beginning of the season, and providing parents and team members with the practice schedule, team rules, and expectations
- Developing collegiate athletes that can compete at the next level
- Ensuring the confidentiality of all material related to the program, including and without limitation to financial records, personnel records, team information, films, statistics and any other material or data furnished to the Head Coach by the Academy or developed by the Head Coach on behalf of the Academy
- Responsible for informing the Athletic Director and Athletic Trainer of all practice and game schedules and any changes to the schedule
- Responsible for locker room supervision and building safety at team practice and competition facility
- Responsible for clearing transportation logistics with the Athletic Director and driving the team in the school van.
- Complete NFHS Concussion in Sports training and CPR certification upon hire.
Required Experience, Degree, and Skills:
- Must have a bachelor’s degree
- Valid and current driver’s license
- At least 3-5 years of experience coaching lacrosse at the high school, college, or U15-club level
- Organization and time management skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude towards students, staff, and faculty
