Substitute Teacher

(Part-time Adjunct Position for 2024-2025)

Sonoma Academy is seeking qualified applicants for our pool of substitute teachers who are available in advance or last minute to substitute for a teacher. The substitute will be required to complete our onboarding process and will then be contacted by the school when the need arises.

Sonoma Academy is an independent high school located in Santa Rosa, CA on a 34-acre campus, surrounded by 1,000 acres of protected open space, at the base of Taylor Mountain. Founded in 2001, it provides an engaging, challenging, and innovative college preparatory education and a supportive community for motivated learners from Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Lake, and Mendocino counties. The school currently serves 330 students in grades 9 through 12 and is increasing its enrollment each year. Of our 330 students, over 30% self-identify as students of color, and our students come from 80+ middle schools, ensuring a broad mixture of students from all over the greater North Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follow lesson plans provided by the teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students

• Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment

• Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan

• Clearly communicate in a timely manner with the teacher to report on the progress of the class

Required Skills and Experiences:

• BA/BS

• Passionate about teaching high school students.

• Committed to working in a community of diverse students and learners; actively supports adolescent growth and well-being

• Practices cultural competency in all aspects of school life

Compensation:

• Compensation for this position for the 2024-2025 academic year is $27.00 per hour.

Work Environment:

• This position operates in a professional, school environment at a private, independent high school.

• This is a part-time adjunct position with planned evening and weekend work.
