The Assistant Director of Alumni Giving & Engagement position reports to the Director of Advancement and will work collaboratively with the Director of Annual Giving & Family Engagement and Director of Alumni Relations to secure support for the Cushing Academy Annual Fund from graduates of the last 20 years. The Assistant Director of Alumni Giving & Engagement will support the work of engaging Cushing’s alumni community with a focus on developing, implementing and supporting programming aimed at graduates 20 years from graduation. The Assistant Director will also oversee reunion fundraising efforts for the 5th through 20th Reunion Classes. Working with class-based and reunion volunteers, the Assistant Director will develop communication and segmentation strategies and tactics to meet both dollar and donor goals. Personal cultivation and solicitation of assigned prospects and high-level volunteers is required, with a travel goal of 120 face-to-face visits each year.
Annual Giving
Assist the Director of Annual Giving in implementing creative, multi-channelled strategies to increase donors and participation in the Cushing Fund from the 20 most recent classes.
Oversee senior gift and student philanthropy programs, including “Thank a Penguin” day
Identify, recruit and manage a small team of Cushing volunteers for the Cushing Fund (20 most recent classes). Recruit/support young alumni members of the Alumni Council.
Travel to qualify, engage, solicit and steward young alumni prospects and donors with a goal of 120 meetings annually (including college meet-ups) to focus on growing the number of donors to Cushing Academy.
Work with the Director of Annual Giving to create and implement targeted content for recent graduates that align with institutional strategic priorities and key messages.
Assist in the production, mailing, and emailing of fundraising appeals as needed
Alumni Engagement
Creates targeted strategies and programming to engage young alumni personally through on-campus, local and regional events (including college meet-ups) and via digital communications and networks.
Attend and promote the attendance of recent graduates at campus, regional events, and networking events.
Assist in all aspects of volunteer management, including recruitment, training, and staffing, including reunion volunteers and Alumni Council members
Serve as the liaison for the 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th Reunion classes
Manage texting platform to create and send event reminders to 20 youngest classes and twice a year for fundraising
Oversee transition of graduating class to alumni community, including “welcome” event/present and onboarding of graduating seniors to various alumni career networking platforms
Partner with campus departments around alumni on-campus visits and student panels for on-campus events; assist with alumni weekend programming related to student/young alumni hiring.
Continually update/maintain alumni records via Raiser’s Edge via email/text/social
Assist in the production, mailing, and emailing of alumni event invitations and reunion materials
Bachelor’s degree required
At least one to three years of related work experience. Experience in fundraising and/or independent schools is preferred, but not required
Must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office / Google Suite, the internet, knowledge of Blackbaud and familiarity with fundraising and relational database software a plus, willingness to learn new systems/tools
Demonstrated ability to use good judgment to handle confidential information sensitively
