Tilton School seeks a part and/or full-time Learning Specialist, ideally with background in special education, who will work with the Director of the Center for Academic Achievement (CAA) to provide individualized and/or small group support tailored to students with a variety of learning needs. This individual will also work in collaboration with the Director of the CAA to develop and manage academic programming and resources that help further CAA’s mission. The Learning Specialist encourages students to foster a growth mindset and work towards becoming strong self-advocates in navigating their learning experience through skill-based strategies and teaching. The CAA facilitates acquisition of executive functioning skills such as organizing and prioritizing assignments, managing time, improving study skills through active learning strategies, and also provides tutorial support in specific content areas when needed. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of the CAA, the Learning Specialist will foster a positive, structured, and caring environment. This person provides direct support and instruction to identified students through CAA sessions and collaboration with teaching faculty. As a residential school, Tilton considers the work of faculty broadly, and we engage with students both during and beyond the academic day. Full-time faculty at Tilton can expect to contribute two seasons in the co-curricular and/or athletic program and to be responsible for weekly evening and monthly weekend supervisory duties. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluate and communicate the individual academic needs of each student referred to the CAA.
Provide targeted support in the areas of executive functioning, writing processes, English language acquisition, mathematics, sciences and effective learning strategies applied to academic content and social/emotional wellbeing including a growth mindset in both individual and small group settings.
Provide support in general content areas including building foundational skills, the writing process, including getting started and completing writing assignments, research skills, outlining, and managing issues of procrastination and perfectionism.
Maintain notes in the CAA database and provide ongoing communication with the Director of the CAA, advisors, faculty members, students, and families.
Track student growth with progress monitoring.
Follow up with students and advisors about missed appointments and rescheduling appointments, as needed.
Attend team meetings for specific students and other students at risk, as needed.
Experience working with students with learning disabilities.
Support teaching faculty by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to enable faculty to better meet the needs of all learners.

Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Preferred: Background in special education; experience in residential oversight and/or secondary or post-secondary instruction.
