Summary:
The Coordinator for the Academic Skills Center supports the ASC/SAS team by running our robust peer tutor program, from initial recruitment through training, matching and supporting tutors/tutees. Additionally, the role includes 5-10 hours per week of administrative support to the entire ASC/SAS team. Candidates who have tutored or participated in TRIO or other student success programs, are encouraged to apply. Some availability in the late afternoons/early evenings is necessary, and this position requires the ability to balance multiple tasks and collaborate effectively with a team. Strong candidates should enjoy spending time with high school students and have a sincere desire to support students through challenging times, while bringing a sense of empathy, humor and caring to their work. This role requires a high-level of attention to detail and organization for the administrative tasks embedded in the work. This is a part time role, with the opportunity to work 20 hours per week during the academic year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In support of the Academic Skills Center and Office of Student Accessibility Services, the Coordinator’s responsibilities include:
- Coordinate the application process and operation of the Peer Tutor Program:
- Recruit tutors through effective advertising and through relationships with student leaders, affinity groups, instructors and other campus partners.
- Review all applications and teacher recommendations.
- Run orientation each fall to train new and returning tutors.
- Maintain the Peer Tutor Canvas course.
- Make Peer Tutor assignments daily via email, follow-up with tutors as necessary throughout their assignment.
- Recruit, train and maintain a group of lead peer tutors, who help with social media, training and with any peer tutor events.
- Conduct two additional training sessions throughout the year
- Respond to the needs of current students, by developing peer tutor groups, as needed.
- Solicit feedback and work with campus partners to continually improve the peer tutoring program, improve communication/collaboration and respond to the needs of students.
- Provide walk-in support or initial intake meetings for students coming to the Academic Skills Center without appointments.
- Work some afternoon/evenings and weekends, as scheduled, to support group peer tutoring and ‘writing cafe’ sessions.
- Schedule and track student appointments for the ASC/SAS, using the Medicat system. (Training will be provided).
- Collect and collate campus wide information for the Andover Planner each spring term and work with partners (planner companies and/or graphic designers) to develop planners unique to Andover.
- Generate reports of student appointments for our Dean of Students team, and for the Director’s use, using Excel, Medicat, pivot tables and other means.
- Manage the expense reporting process for the ASC/SAS team.
