Position Overview and Responsibilities
St. John’s seeks a long-term, middle school substitute drama teacher to cover a family leave from March 24, 2025 to January 19, 2026. The Middle School drama teacher will teach semester sections in grades 6, 7 and 8. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated effectiveness in teaching elementary or secondary school drama, broad knowledge of theater arts and theater production, and a history of success in theater arts instruction with middle school age students.
We seek a teacher who promotes curiosity and inquiry among students, engages all learners, uses technology as a vehicle for learning gains, and works with students to connect content to the real world in the classroom setting.

Education and Experience
A minimum of 1-3 years of experience teaching theater arts in a K-12 setting
Academic (bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred) and professional background and training in theater
Experience directing student productions
Ability to work effectively with a diversity of learning styles and learners
Comfort with creating and adapting curriculum to suit student needs
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Creativity, imagination, and a sense of humor
An understanding of technology as it relates to middle school teaching
Physical Requirements:
Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
